Some sad news to share this Monday morning. A name I imagine a lot of newer readers won't actually know, Dustin “Crusader” Reyes sadly passed away (as confirmed on Nuclear Monster) - someone who was a pioneer of Linux gaming news.
Dustin was a main contributor to the long-gone linuxgames.com website, which was one of the first proper websites around that tried to give people a place to keep up to date with Linux gaming. I was a big fan of the website, I read it every day so naturally I read the stuff Dustin put up often, and without people like Dustin there's a definite chance I wouldn't have continued reading and eventually start up GamingOnLinux. Even in the beginning of GamingOnLinux I contributed a bit to linuxgames.com myself, which Dustin and others would be approving and publishing.
From an old CNN article where they spoke to Dustin:
I asked Dustin (who sometimes goes by the name Crusader) how the Linux Games site got started. "Linux Games began as a venture of Marvin Malkowski, head of the Telefragged gaming network," he replied. "Marv had been a longtime Linux supporter, and thus thought it was only natural to add a site dedicated to providing quality news about gaming under the Linux operating system to the network. I had known Marv for a few months via IRC, and expressed an interest in being on staff. Marv also recruited Al Koskelin, and in May of 1998 the three of us took Linux Games public. Looking back, it's almost hard to fathom how far gaming under Linux has come in just over a year -- it's almost an exact microcosm of the acceptance of Linux itself by mainstream computer users."
I personally spoke with Dustin a number of times over the years, and he was always a really friendly and welcoming person to chat to.
Rest in peace, Dustin “Crusader” Reyes, one of the Linux gaming news pioneers.
I remember reading many articles written by him because I had visiting linuxgames.com since 2004. I listen to podcasts, but there were 12(?) of them on linuxgames.com.
He was a big fan of games for Linux, and he kept working on linuxgames.com until it was closed by the owner around 2015. It's was impresive that he wanted to keep this webiste alive, and later, he was the only person writting articles on linuxgames.com for probably last few years.

I remember him in the icculus.org channel on Freenode, back in the day, asking with lots of other great people.
See more from me
