Well this could be a whole lot of fun! Slime Rancher, the series of games about a lone rancher sucking up slimes in a vacuum gun is getting a movie adaptation.
First reported by Deadline, game developer Monomi Park has teamed up with Story Kitchen for the full feature film. This is the same team who are also working on the Vampire Survivors TV series. Writing on X, Monomi Park founder Nick Popovich confirmed the news simply stating "Yes, I'm excited.".
Could be quite fun, it's definitely an interesting setting to have a movie about it and the games are just wonderful too and both games work well on Linux.
Slime Rancher is also one of the best-reviewed games on Steam, currently sitting at position number 21 on Steam Top 250. It sold well too, with the developer announcing last year it hit the 6 million mark. Slime Rancher 2, currently in Early Access, is also clearly quite a hit selling over 300,000 copies in only a few days.
No details on when it will release, there's no real info on anything yet apart from a confirmation that it's happening.
Quoting: GlitteryLast game I would think it could be made into a movie.
The game does little more than present a setting. That might actually give it enough freedom to write something suitable for a movie.
Quoting: EhvisA lot (I won't say all) of modern movies are written pretty horribly! And we're talking remakes who already have established settings and characters. You think more writing freedom will help? "Hey, I see you can't drive within the lines, so I erased them all. You win! Except for the other drivers, but who cares about them?" Sorry to shut down your optimism. It sounds good, but I just don't believe it.Quoting: GlitteryLast game I would think it could be made into a movie.

I find it baffling that good books can't get a movie, or they take 15 years to do it, but then a video game with no story at all gets one.
I guess I can contend with the fact that with no story baseline, there is just as much chance for it to be good as there is for it to be bad. I'm still salty about some bad writers and their producers though.

It's really difficult to live up to expectations when making books into a movie. Especially with good ones.

If Hollywood can get off their nonsense train, there might be chance.

The Hollywood bigwigs seem to have gone to great efforts to create a situation where it's as difficult as possible to end up with a well-written result, the better to control what they get for maximum bland re-tread-i-ness and minimum short-term risk.
