SteamWorld Build is the latest in the SteamWorld series from Thunderful Development / Thunderful Publishing and they're once again entirely changing the genre for the series and turning it into a city-builder.

While previous games in the series including SteamWorld Dig, SteamWorld Dig 2, SteamWorld Heist and SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech all had Native Linux releases — this time SteamWorld Build will not as confirmed on their Steam forum. However, they also confirmed it will have full controller and Steam Deck support so no doubt it will run great with Proton (reports on ProtonDB from the demo show it running just fine).

More about it: "Be the architect of a SteamWorld mining town! Break ground and raise houses for your steambot citizens, keep them fed and provide some rootin'-tootin' entertainment.

There's an abandoned mine sitting under your town, and it’s rumored to be filled with ancient tech that holds the key to escaping the impending doom. Use the natural resources above ground and the abundant ores buried in the mine to expand your town. Stimulate new residential tiers to join the quest to dig deeper, unearth untold riches and ultimately help them to hightail it off the planet!"

There is a demo available on Steam and the full release will also be on GOG.

This might be a game for me, longtime fan of SimCity and Dungeon Keeper.

I have them all as well. They were my first time playing an RPG and a card flipper (or whatever it's termed!). Very disappointing there's no Linux native.

Got them all too, but won't be buying this one, as the genre holds zero appeal to me. But hey, if that's reflected as poorer sales due to lack of Linux support, then that's fine by me!

REALLY looking forward to this one. Played the demo during steams summer demo fest, whatever it was called, and really enjoyed it. The topside base building was the perfect balance of simplicity vs complexity, and the underground dungeon diving was a great addition as well.

Doesn't hurt that I absolutely love the Dig series and can't wait for Dig 3!

Seems like anytime a series goes on long enough, Linux support gets dropped.

Supergiant dropped it after four games when Hades came out. Shadow Warrior dropped it after the first game. Mimimi's games only kept it for Steam versions of their games after Shadow Tactics. And there's probably more examples that I've forgotten or unaware of.

It's a sad trend to see.
