Launchers. Gotta love 'em right? Major publishers just love to make Steam Deck and Linux gaming that little bit more difficult. Ubisoft Connect broke again but Valve is here to save the day.
You might have noticed recently your Ubisoft games stopped working with some kind of error message when trying to load. Thankfully it didn't take Valve long to solve, with a new release of Proton Experimental now live from August 1st with the single fix noted being "Fixed Ubisoft Connect not working after its recent update". So you'll just need to switch your Ubisoft games over to Proton Experimental to get them working again.
Just head to your Downloads and you should see an update ready for Proton Experimental.

How to change your Proton version:
Steam Deck:
- Pick a game in your Library and head to the little cog icon on the right.
- Click Properties, then Compatibility on the left.
- Make sure the tickbox is done, then select Proton Experimental from the dropdown.
On a Linux desktop:
- Right click a game, go to Properties.
- Compatibility on the left.
- Make sure the tickbox is done, then select Proton Experimental from the dropdown.

I've had that game since 2018 when I played most games in Windows and it was the last thing I bought from them (because of Uplay). Finally getting some use out of that Arcade Mode again
(That's a game mode where you play user created maps in Outpost, Assault or Journey game modes. Some of them are quite sophisticated, better than anything in the main game)

I've had a loading-error with the standalone version of Connect through Lutris and Heroic (which I tried in the hopes to fix it, but didn't help) for a month or two now... It just says that it encountered an error and needs to close, even though I had it working for months prior and didn't change anything. - Though, yea, it's probably an update to Connect that didn't like something and then couldn't run properly.
I still get it now, even though I've had updates for Lutris and other things since, but it doesn't fix itself, and I don't get an answer for this issue either, so I don't know what to do about it. - It was fine and then it wasn't.
Actually, I just tried to launch a Ubisoft-game (that needs Connect) through Steam (which I didn't try before), and while Connect updated itself twice this time, it got stuck on the third splash. - However, that was with Proton 8 (which worked before), and considering there was an update to the Experimental version, I tried that, which did work indeed.
Sadly, that still didn't fix it through Lutris, which is a bigger problem for me as I have more games on Connect independently than through Steam (perhaps one or two), which is different from using Connect through Steam, cause you actually open Connect and hit "play" there. - Maybe it's a setting, maybe I could reinstall Lutris or Wine or something. If not, it will be up to the people behind Lutris, I guess.
I hope I can get this fixed before "Mirage" comes out. I've already purchased that last year and I switched to Linux this year, so... oops
