While they won't have a Native Linux version, no doubt they will run well in Proton. With full controller support, they could be great games for the Steam Deck too. Nice to see more classic games getting updated properly for modern platforms without completely remaking them.

And here I was about to start playing them with the old 3dfx patches on my Win98 machine!

Even though i have some of the older Tomb raider games on PC, there's still something charming about playing the originals on PS1 just as i remember them, i guess i just like the retro aesthetic. I might pick these up on a bigger sale eventually, after all you can pretty much remaster a lot of retro games yourself now with Ai texture packs and 4k resolution.

Looks a bit brighter but not visually pleasing. A remake would have been my choice here. I think people already demonstrated that as a sparetime project

I just heard about this, but didn't expect to see it posted on GOL today due to no word yet about Proton support or Steam Deck Verified/Playable status!

It's a bit uncanny, too, because I recently felt like revisiting the original Tomb Raider! (I could take or leave 2 and 3, personally - they put in too much combat that didn't play well for controls intended primarily for exploration. But it's still good that they're there!)

Great news, this one, and I'm hopeful that it will be handled faithfully; Care for the franchise has already been demonstrated with the choice of release-date - February 14th 1968 is the original Lara Croft's birthdate.

They already did a remake of Tomb Raider, but they made certain puzzles and such easier, and skipped a bunch of them (at least that's what my brother said, I never did beat the original 3, but I have beaten all of them (except the latest trilogy) from Anniversary onward.

Well, I see no reason not to cover news about such things, especially remastered of absolute classics like this. We know by know there's a 90% chance anything will just run with Proton :). I would rather cover something I'm interested in myself, and potentially a whole bunch of others, than not cover it just because it doesn't have Native :)

Oh, I never meant (or, indeed, said) native - you know my views on Proton from other threads, it's absolutely essential for what I do.

I had a game release just yesterday that was spot-on with Proton from the first minute of release (and the ensuing non-stop 9.5 hour first play-session... ), which was and is an absolute joy. But I'm waiting on it actually getting an official Steam Deck status before I submit anything to you guys, in that case - it's not quite as big of a title (at least these days) as the likes of Tomb Raider.

In the meanwhile, which one is better, OpenLara of CroftEngine?

Oh I know what you meant, just making sure my own stance is clear :)

I loved the mix of puzzle/platformer/shooter in the first games. Always did have a problem with all the killing though:

- Lara, birds are our friends - please don't shoot... *blam blam blam*
- Look Lara, what a majestic canis lupus, they hardly ever attack people. If you just sneak around.... *blam blam blam*
- Wow, Lara! You found a dinosaur! Those were thought to be extinct.,,, *blam blam blam* - Nevermind, extinct it is.

Shooting digital people, no problemo. Shooting digital animals, big problemo!
