Two bits of Wine news for this weekend with the development release Wine 8.15 now available, and more work for Wine Wayland is incoming too.

For Wine 8.15 the highlights are:

  • Support for TEXT print processor.
  • Cycle Collection support in MSHTML.
  • Cross-process memory notifications in Wow64.
  • Various bug fixes.

There's some bug fixes for TrackMania Nations Forever, Chessbase 11, Forza Horizon 4, The Legend of Sisyphus, TranscendPang, Colin McRae Rally 2.0 and more.

On top of that the ongoing work to have fully native Wayland support for Wine continues, with part 6 now sent as a merge request to handle wl_pointer (mouse) events. This means it adds support for:

  1. Handle enter/leave/(absolute) motion/button/axis events to allow users to interact with applications using such devices, e.g., a mouse.
  2. Update the cursor image used for Wayland surfaces based on the Windows cursor bitmap data.

In this wine version (compiled with ./configure --enable-archs=i386,x86_64) steam still works and virtual desktop works too in my case

With some installers (with arc.exe) in this version show you dont have admin rights in my case (with wine 8.13 deb packages works ok) ????

Good to see Wine Wayland moving forward.

What's the story with winesync though? I'm building wine-esync from staging, but I'd prefer upstream support.

Noob question here,

With the new version, will the 'Wine' I have installed, update to this when I update or do I have to manually update it?

Thanks,

D

I was interested in the Track mania bug that was fixed as it's a game I play fairly regularly over the years. Turns out it was an old bug that has been fixed a few years back and nobody bothered closing the bug report 😅
