CD PROJEKT RED announced recently that they've teamed up with Anonymous Content, to develop a live-action project set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. Given the success of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime, it's not exactly surprising to see them continue to expand the media. If you haven't watched Edgerunners you probably should, it's really good!
Anonymous Content worked on the likes of True Detective, Mr. Robot, The Revenant and Spotlight. From the press release it noted that "CD PROJEKT RED is working directly with Anonymous Content Studios’ Head of Television Garret Kemble, Director of Development Ryan Schwartz, and Chief Creative Officer David Levine, an industry veteran who was previously HBO’s EVP and Co-Head of Drama for over 10 years, where he oversaw production of series such as True Detective, Westworld, and True Blood. He was also involved in the production of the early seasons of the Game of Thrones".
This new live-action Cyberpunk 2077 project is in the "early development stage" and they've not found a screenwriter yet, so don't expect it to arrive any time soon. It will tell a brand-new story so it's not just going to be the game made into live-action.
Cyberpunk itself didn't start with the Cyberpunk 2077 video game, it was originally a tabletop RPG from Mike Pondsmith. Another board game is also on the way with Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City, which had a successful Kickstarter back in July 2022.
Are you looking forward to seeing a live-action Cyberpunk 2077?
I honestly can't wait to see what Anonymous Content can come up with in cooperation with CDPR. For some reason they won't need fancy trailers to pull me back into this fabulous dystopian fantasy world!
Quoting: BerenThe original Cyberpunk (2020) roleplaying game was great. Cyberpunk 2077 was great. Phantom Liberty was great. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was great.

Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty are indeed great, but if you ask me*, while Edgerunners started off great it ended up kind of lame, as if its creative lead abandoned it mid-season and handed off production to some amateur fanfic writer. Terrible waste of a very promising show; again, in my opinion.
(*I know you didn't but oh well :P)
Quoting: chickenb00This show will live and die on its set design.Cowboy Bebop had pretty much perfect set and costumes, yet it was disappointing to almost an angry amount.
For this live action gig, I hope they don't make the gore too realistic. The gore in Edgerunners is... kinda sickening to think of all the people that enjoy seeing it. I hope it's comic style or toned down in live action.
Also, some of the fan service in Edgerunners was pretty pointless. If someone walked into the room at the wrong moment, they'd think I was watching anime porn.
Besides my gripes, I do guiltily admit I enjoyed the show overall. I probably won't watch it twice though. I'd rather watch Arcane twice.
