Studio Wildcard with Grove Street Games and Instinct Games have released ARK: Survival Ascended, a full Unreal Engine 5 remake of ARK: Survival Evolved and it's playable on Steam Deck.

Currently in Early Access the remake brings with it special Unreal Engine 5 features like Lumen and Nanite, a new advanced physics system with dynamic water, fully interactive foliage and more physics upgrades. They also mention it will include access to all of ARK's worlds like Scorched Earth, Aberration, Extinction, ARK Genesis Part 1, ARK Genesis Part 2, and more but right now only The Island is available with the other to come later. There's also a redesigned UI, cross-platform modding, a new map and tracking system and the list of what's new goes on for a while.

From the 25.12 release notes:

  • Fixed multiple server crashes
  • Fixed an exploit with the aim magnetism system
  • Fixed Official PvE server configs so that the correct rules were applying (decay periods, structure prevention zones, locked structures)
  • Enabled BattlEye on Steamdeck

Full release notes of all versions on their forum.

Playable to what point? Well that I can't tell you as I don't have access to the game to test it yet, but I can't imagine it running particularly well.

Hmmm. This game struggles to get past 30fps on a 4090 at 4k without using Frame Generation.

I wonder how it runs on SteamDeck?

Come to that, from what I've heard it's generally hard to imagine an "ARK: Survival" game running particularly well, like, ever, on any machine.

If BattleEye is enabled for the Steam Deck, does it mean it's also enabled for other Linux distros, or is BattleEye locked to a certain distro/hardware?

Should be enabled for other distros if i remember correctly.
This is the only site claiming battleye is enabled on steam deck. I've seen no one playing online on ark via steam deck and the game is still classified as unsupported.

Not “claiming” anything. It’s right there in their release notes.
