Diablo 4 is coming to Steam on October 17th

By -

Not long after Overwatch 2 released on Steam, we now have Diablo 4 confirmed to be launching on Steam making it easier than ever to play on Steam Deck and desktop Linux. One less reason to boot up and configure Battle.net — hooray!

At least with it being on Steam, the install for Linux desktop and Steam Deck is about to get a whole lot easier. No more messing around with Battle.net directly, it will just be click and play on Steam thanks to Proton. If you're going to play it that is, because you're not still playing Baldur's Gate 3 right? Or Starfield? Or one of the many other interesting game launches this year.

What's surprising though is that Diablo 4 is coming to Steam only a few months after release.

Perhaps this might go a little better than the Overwatch 2 Steam release, which quickly (at the time) became the worst ever reviewed game on Valve's store. OW2 briefly lost the crown, but it appears according to Steam Top 250, it is once again the #1 worst rated Steam game.

The Steam release for Diablo 4 will come at the same time as the Season of Blood update, with patch notes coming on October 10th ahead of the October 17th release on Steam.

Blizzard confirmed on Steam it will have Steam Achievements and integration with Steam Friends, so you can invite people directly to play. Doesn't seem like there's any chance of transferring to Steam if you purchased on Battle.net though, annoyingly.

Quoting: JpxeI hope they bring over some of their older titles as well. I would love to have Diablo 1-2, StarCraft 1-2 and WarCraft 1-3 easily available with all the benefits of being on Steam; like cloud saves, easy installation, etc.

Or "better", just release them on GOG, like they did for Diablo 1 and Warcraft 1/2 for a reminder.
From Blizzard, with a strong DRM policy, it's even surprising though.

Well, that sucks.
Yeah it really annoys me, as they can generate keys free, and just put them into accounts of people on Battle.net who purchased it. Any developer can do it, that they don't is just really annoying.

Yet another Acti/Blizz game coming to Steam just to get a well deserved review bombing.

Not sure it's deserved in the case of Diablo IV which is actually a really fun game, but hating on Blizzard seems to be the thing to do these days. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

i have played via battle.net with rogue, diablo 4 is very playable as solo, but stupidly long loading times even i have good connection and good pc with fastest SSD for the time i bought it, still only but only Diablo 4 make me wait for 1-2 min at loading screen everytime i start it. sometimes i wait for inventory loading, some times area loadings.(this not supposed to be happen its a huge single map) however D4 has to be kind of Albion thing or needs alot of content as its Competitors aka Path Of exile 2, Last Epoch, Wolcen, but i see no hope for Diablo 4 as i know blizzard. Hype train reached last destination so everyone out.
Still having it on steam directly will save us some more disc space and time.

Quoting: drlambMy biggest gaming regret of this year is purchasing this game (for $70, too!). Played for two weeks after launch and haven't touched it since.

Same here. I got a little more time out of it, probably three weeks, and then they launched that first patch which made my already struggling and completely boring to play sorcerer even more of a struggle and more boring. That's when I finally understood that the devs have zero clue why people play these style of games. They are beyond out of touch. Plus I despised the mmo-lite "features" so that was the end of that game for me, as like you said, a HUGE regret of a purchase.

And here I am, playing Diablo 1 with DevilutionX on my trusty Linux machine and having tons of fun with it.
Diablo 4 can go kick rocks, I don't care about it anymore...

No way, I am not playing any game that could decide to delete my single-player save from its servers.

Or just the fact that I need a web connection at all to play single-player!

In my day, we had to walk 15 miles through the snow to plug our modems in for dial-up at 99 cents a minute! Even a few years later, it still took an hour to download Macromedia Shockwave updates! :old man at 3X grumbles in a corner:

Seriously, in my area, a stable connection is still not always a sure thing. My ISP used to go down once a day, until recently. There's a reason I haven't used a 4k screen yet! (That, and I can't really see much difference from 1080p.)
