Get Alan Wake, Pathologic 2, STASIS: BONE TOTEM and more in this bundle

Alan Wake gets rightful criticism for the combat, most notably the repetitiveness, but the game oozes great atmosphere. It was short enough that it doesn't overstay its welcome and I remember it being a fun romp through the scenes. Might be a good time of year for a replay since it's been oh my god, over a decade now?? a little while since I last played.

The combat isn't the main focus of Alan Wake, it isn't that difficult* and there isn't all that much of it. Yes, it's very stupid combat, like a lot of games. Gets better with upgraded flashlights, though.

(* I accidentally started a DLC chapter once and they did add arbitrary difficulty... got tired of it in about 20 minutes and never went back to it. That's all there was to that chapter too, it seemed)

I've had it for several years, since it came to the PC (remastered a bit from console). There was a problem with audio licensing or something and it went away for a while (wasn't available for purchase anymore) but they redid some of that and re-released it. I SWEAR that Alan Wake is a different voice actor now. I don't have a frame of reference to compare it to, but it stuck out like a sore thumb when I went back to it.

Very worthwhile game, the creepy woods, the atmosphere and good story and characters. The bear traps are a real treat, the sound it makes and the way it stops your motion almost makes it feel like you really stepped in a bear trap if you weren't expecting it. (That's immersion... I almost felt that one time)

They did a remaster of Alan Wake a couple years ago, but it's still an EGS exclusive.

Looks like Alan Wake 2 is getting the same treatment, but since it's a new game, hopefully sales will be lousy enough that the exclusivity won't last. Or maybe it will, if Epic funded the development:

Also, disappointed that Stasis: Bone Totem still hasn't gotten a native Linux build. They said they would try to get it done soon after release, but maybe didn't bother once it got Steam Deck Verified.

I bought Alan Wake on release and it took me until last year to finally finish the game because of a save game bug that had me stuck running around getting nowhere. 😂

Once I had that done I did Alan Wakes American Nightmare. Not quite the same quality or atmosphere as the original, but still worth playing if you enjoyed the story.

I wish they'd release the remaster on steam. Maybe one day they will along with Alan Wake 2.
