After some awesome demos, the GZDoom powered shooter Selaco is coming to Early Access on Steam in May 2024 and it also has a new trailer along with info on what to expect from it.
More about it: "Selaco is a brand new original shooter running on GZDoom, featuring thrilling action set pieces, destructibility, smart AI and a fleshed out story taking place within an immersive game world. It draws inspiration heavily from F.E.A.R. in terms of action set pieces, while mixing traditional retro-FPS elements from QUAKE and DOOM, along with some more modern features. Together with professional artists who work in the industry, several having worked on successful throwback FPS games in the past, Selaco is a fully fleshed out world full of character, action, and mystery."

What to expect in the initial EA launch:
- 25 levels. For comparison, the demo had 3.
- 11 weapons, 10 of which will be upgradable with new stats, abilities and Alternate Fire Modes.
- Dynamic encounters with reactive combatants.
- Heavy emphasis on exploration and worldbuilding.
- A large number of secrets and unlockables.
- Intense combat and effects taking inspiration from John Woo movies.
- A wide range of environmental variety where no two levels look the same.
- Full modding support.
- Gamepad & Steam Deck support.
- A synth-heavy soundtrack composed to Lawrence Steele.
- Very kind robots who clean up your mess you've created.
See the full announcement here. This will easily be one of my favourite releases next year, I absolutely loved blasting through the demo and with a lot more content coming it's going to be awesome. Full modding support should be fun too given how impressive the game is - can't wait to see what people add to it.
You can follow it on Steam and it will have Native Linux support.
Still excited for it but I'll continue to wait for the finished game I guess.
Quoting: RaabenWon't lie, a bit let down that all the hype of finally getting a release date turned out to be release date *for early access

Hey!
That's more than fair, and it's a bummer to hear that you feel a little let down.
However, I can't stress enough that the Early Access build can be considered a full game by itself. Our goal is *not* to deliver only a fraction of the game before we launch the rest, its an approach to Early Access that I personally dislike. We do the opposite.
We start big, and build from there!
I recommend reading the blog post we made on Steam that elaborates on our reasoning.
Regardless, if you want to wait thats fine too! <3

Hey, good to see that you're hanging around here! I hope I didn't sound too negative, and looking through the Steam discussions shows how receptive you've been to similar comments on the announcement. I really admire that and do have faith in the team behind this game.
The EA release does sound pretty hefty (I admit I had only skimmed the bullet points before) but I still prefer to have the full thing with all chapters, in this case more my preference to not have to wait in order to finish what I'm having fun with. No worries about losing my interest or anything, still will be an instant buy for me.

Not at all dude, no worries! I get it, I'm also burned out Early Access releases. Especially the ones where they only update the game whenever a new chapter is released (often a year or so later). No shade to the devs who do that, of course, whatever works for them. It's just not something I think is the right approach to an Early Access release.
I feel more inspired by something like 'The Forest' from many years ago. There was a very active feedback loop where they would regularly (weekly, I believe) update the game with improvements and bug fixes all the way until they finally shipped the full story.
It's unfortunate how that approach seems to become increasingly more rare, doubly so for shooters :(
I'm fairly neutral about Early Access—I've had both good and bad experiences, much like with "full" releases—but I'll likely hold off getting it right away, because my backlog is huge as is and I only ever manage to clear stuff from it by playing singleplayer games in as few sittings as possible. Otherwise my attention is bound to get stolen away by life or other games

But as any shameless promise-breaker, I confess to had broken that promise a couple times, when I had a good feeling the devs can deliver the goods. So I will make a exception for this game too.
Your enemy IA better kick my ass in the game, like in F.E.A.R, or you guys will never hear the end of it
