Turbo Overkill is a brutal FPS well worth your time

Turbo Overkill finally released the big 1.0 back in August, and StridePR sent over a key and I had an absolutely blast with it and it works great on Steam Deck and desktop Linux. All you need to do is ensure you're using the latest Proton 8.0-4 and it runs great. It looks good, performance is good and it's completely crazy.

If you like your shooters fast, retro-styled, quite bloody and full of action, Turbo Overkill is pretty close to perfection. The action almost never stops, it's unrelenting in its determination to have you shoot, slice and explode your way through the masses of enemies in the game. How can you not love a game that gives you a chainsaw strapped to your leg that you slide through enemies with?

Not only does it have a full campaign to blast through, there's a endless wave-based survival mode to jump around in too.

One thing to note is that they are preparing a big update for the game, which you can test out in the Beta on Steam. Amongst other things, it should hopefully bring improved gamepad support which is lacking right now.

For desktop Linux, no issues there either, performance is great apart from some shader stutter at times. For the most part it's incredibly smooth and it just looks so damn good. I have to say, I've enjoyed this a lot more than the newer DOOM games. While good, the newer DOOM games were a bit frustrating but Turbo Overkill has been nothing but pure juicy pleasure to rip and tear through enemies. The game just keeps on giving the further you get into it with the weapon and character upgrades, you really do end up becoming a one-man killing machine.

The plot isn't much to go by but who cares when the action is just this good? You don't really need to pay any attention to the story, most of the time I just forgot why I was doing anything and just enjoyed the pure violence. It doesn't hold back on that either — it really is over the top. There will be plenty of times where you've exploded enemies and their low-res blood is just dripping from surfaces. Quite possibly one of the best shooter I've ever played.

Yeah, that about sums it up. It's pure madness distilled into FPS action. Wonderful stuff.
