Goober Dash is a chaotic 32-player Race Royale

By -

From the creators of the rather great Rocket Bot Royale, Winterpixel Games Inc. just announced Goober Dash, a racing royale game of pure chaos. Made with Godot Engine again too with a "Custom C++ Backend" and it will release with Native Linux support.

It sounds just a little bit like Fall Guys except in 2D and just as ridiculous. The developers say that Goobers have the ability to DASH, which can be used as a speed burst, to smash through obstacles, and even send your opponents flying. There's even a full course creator to build and upload levels.

Game Features:

  • Fast-paced multiplayer platforming.
  • Up to 32 real players in each race.
  • Cross-platform play.
  • Custom Races with friends.
  • Daily global timed challenges.
  • Unlockable Customization for your Goober.
  • Full Course Creator/Editor.
  • Share your Courses and get them in the game.

"With Goober Dash, we wanted to continue our tradition of creating fun, competitive, multiplayer games that you can enjoy with friends for years," said Tyron Haugen, Creative Director at Winterpixel Games. "For this game, we knew we wanted to give our community the tools to make this world their own, and with the Course Creator, we've allowed players to create whatever they can imagine, and then experience it with their friends. Honestly, we've been blown away by what the community has come up with so far."

Sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun

This one looks interesting, provided it doesn't contain any invasive client-side Anti-Cheat like EAC, and also provided it doesn't contain Epic Online Services. The former is plausible, but the latter "cross-platform multiplayer" has me concerned. Several developers have accomplished cross-platform multiplayer with Azure PlayFAB (Street Fighter 6) or AWS (Guilty Gear -Strive-).

As long as there's no anti-cheat or anti-tamper stuff to cause problems on Linux, they had me at "fun, competitive, multiplayer games that you can enjoy with friends for years" - that's right up my alley, and I've always had a selection of games like that in my library since time immemorial. It looks like exactly my sort of ridiculous, too, and the emotes look hilarious as well!
