Three pieces of Steam news for you today covering the Steam Deck and desktop Steam as there's been various updates and improvements.

Firstly the SteamOS 3.5.3 Preview update went out to fix Steam Deck LCD issues from the 3.5.2 update:

  • Fixed a regression with color management sliders.
  • Fixed a fan control regression.

Plus there's now a HDR Support notice on games in your Steam Library, although you do need to expand the details view to see it (the circled i on desktop / Game Info on Steam Deck and Big Picture). This applies to both the Steam Deck and Desktop Steam clients available in the Beta update channel. HDR is also now available as a filtering option in your Steam Library too for Collections and for generally filtering the Steam Library on Steam Deck / Big Picture Mode.

Desktop:

Steam Deck:

This does depend on developers accurately tagging their games as having HDR Support though of course. There is not currently a HDR category on the Steam store directly so hopefully Valve will add it to make it easier for Steam Deck OLED uses and desktop HDR screen owners.

Steam Deck Beta changelog:

General

  • Add HDR badge to app details for games that are marked as having HDR output.

Steam Input

  • Improve look of configurator when there are no controllers connected
  • Fixes to both Gyro as Joystick Modes: Min/Max remapping was not allowing values to become zero when gyro values were less than minimum required joystick output values.
  • Gyro to Joystick (Deflection) mode uses sensor fusion controller accelerometer rather than quaternion for more consistent behavior. This should address issues where the X output would become canted in the legacy modes. Note: it may feel subtly different. Feedback welcome.

Desktop Steam Beta changelog:

General

  • Move the controller support information in the desktop client from the play bar to a widget in the right column
  • Add HDR badge to app details for games that are marked as having HDR output.
  • Fix bug preventing you from launching a game that had temporarily disabled auto-updates if new workshop content was available

SteamVR

  • Disable the VR-only warning for the time being due to it sometimes showing up when it shouldn't.

Awesome! I don't see it in the beta with 2 games I tried (The Witcher 3 and Horizon ZD) with Steam Beta (Flatpak). According to PCGamingWiki they should have the support

Nonetheless, great to see it. No more guessing. Now let's go Plasma 6! Can't wait for the HDR gaming mode.

Love the Dynamic Collections feature; using that shows me I only have 7 games tagged as having HDR support. I don't have an HDR monitor, so it's just a curiosity at this point, but it will be interesting to see if/how much this increases now that Steam is surfacing it more directly, and the new Steam Deck supports it.

Edit: I'm also curious to see if Valve adds HDR support to their own games.
