After a good few years in Early Access, The Universim from Crytivo is finally set to hit the big 1.0 with some fun new features. This was announced along with a new trailer (below) that the 1.0 release will happen on January 22nd, 2024.

"The Universim 1.0 isn't just a game; it's a living, breathing universe at your fingertips. Prepare to immerse yourself in an experience where your choices shape the destiny of entire civilizations and the balance of entire planets. You’ll be able to launch Nuggets into the space age! This update brings end-game content to life with more technology to unlock in the research tree, new planets to explore (or exploit for resources), and so much more!" — Crytivo

Some of what's coming with the 1.0 release:

  • Unlimited Space Exploration: Unlock the space map and colonize any number of planets you desire. Each planet, from Toxic and Ice to Lava or Terrestrial, presents unique conditions and challenges.
  • Resource-Rich Planets: Discover planets teeming with valuable resources essential for the expansion and prosperity of your Nugget civilization.
  • Enhanced Narration: More voice-over lines add fun and functionality, providing entertaining commentary and critical updates on your civilization's status. More than 600 new voiced lines by our favorite narrator.
  • Complete Storyline: Embark on a journey to discover your true self with a fully developed storyline, adding depth and context to your gameplay. Even after the story concludes, continue to expand and evolve in the endless universe.
  • Space Age and Advanced Technologies: Launch your Nuggets into the space age and unlock more technology in the research tree, expanding your reach across the cosmos.
  • Enhanced User Interface: Enjoy a more intuitive and user-friendly UI, making your journey through space and time smoother and more enjoyable.
  • Game Balance Changes: We've fine-tuned game mechanics for a balanced and rewarding experience, ensuring each decision has meaningful impact.
  • Bug Fixes and Optimizations: We've squashed bugs and optimized performance for a seamless gaming experience.

I've been playing it on and off for years, always intrigued by the setting and every time it sucked me in with quite a few hours so it's going to be fantastic to see it finally finished after waiting so long. The Universim was originally funded on Kickstarter too all the way back in 2014!

You can find The Universim on Humble Store, GOG and Steam.

Holy cow, it's actually coming out? I backed that years ago, and eventually turned off their updates because they were advertising other games too much. So it had completely fallen off my radar. Wild to see it pop up again like this.

Trailer looks decent though.

Yeah, they became a publisher too. The spamming of other games across updates for unrelated games can often be quite annoying, lots of publishers do it now.

Wasn't this something Valve has been frowning upon a while ago?

PS: What I hate about it: All those games I'm following due to a Linux version... announcing their next game, without a Linux version.

Man, a blast from the past! I think this is very near the bottom of my wishlist on steam when sorted by "date added" - I had completely forgotten about it! It's been so long though, I think I'll wait for release and reviews before getting excited.

It is actually quite playable; has been for quite some time :-)
I have sunken quite some number of hours into playing it during the past 1,5 years or so....

Anyway, it is nice to see it come out of Early Access after a century or two of development

Yeah I was wondering too... Even on gogdb it's not clear if that's the case or not:

https://www.gogdb.org/product/1425364326#downloads
The changelog shows the Linux updates, but doesn't list it in the Builds tab but in Downloads one yes...

Well, it is already pretty good even in it's current state. They were basically just adding/extending the game content (the modern age + future age stuff and associated new buildings/graphics/quests/game concepts, and the "space age" - meaning you can [already now] go to "the moon" and colonize it) for the past year.

If you are into "god-like" city/civ building/management games, it is already pretty nice and good and a ton of fun

(I would definitely wait for at least some Christmas discount though...)

I had to create an acccount in here just to say this.

As a kickstarter backer this game and this studio to me is comparable to the day before, having promised many things, claimed they were working on many others and in the end finding out they became a publisher and 90% of what they claimed wasn't reality.

Only to then figure out they were not only "publishing" games but they were also trying to kickstart others while their project was left for dead and never in any way a project that is the size it should be with the amount of money they got.

Anyone enjoying this game should take a step back and look at the development history of the game before praising anything about it.

Off ouch that's not great to hear, but I appreciate you sharing it. I think waiting on release and listening to other feedback will be the way to go with this one.
