It's coming up on Christmas now, and so GamingOnLinux will be going into it's usual mostly hibernating state to take a little break to recharge. Apart from any sudden big stories that appear, or just plain boredom from me (or guest contributions), you can expect news to be rather quiet over the next week.

A big thank you to all supporters, commenters and readers for an absolute knock-out of a year that smashed through pretty much every record I think we've ever had for everything. It continues to be a real pleasure to run GamingOnLinux and follow how Linux gaming continues to evolve.

Just a reminder that if you wish to support me and GamingOnLinux the links are available here any time which includes the affiliate store links to buy games while also supporting GamingOnLinux.

GamingOnLinux will return to properly normal operations around January 3rd, 2024.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and have a wonderful and safe New Year celebration!

I am the owner of GamingOnLinux. After discovering Linux back in the days of Mandrake in 2003, I constantly checked on the progress of Linux until Ubuntu appeared on the scene and it helped me to really love it. You can reach me easily by emailing GamingOnLinux directly.

Happy holidays fellow penguins. Don't overdose on chocolate, ham, cake, turkey, or anything else you might traditionally eat too much of around this time of year.

I'm mainly celebrating a bit of time off work and being able to catch up with some friends and family members.

Definitely not on December 25th, though. Can you say "co-opt the pagan celebrations"?

I actually know some Muslims and Hindus that celebrate Christmas, just as a feast where you give your loved ones presents. Which is fair enough since the tree is a Germanic pagan thing and the gift giving is a pre-Christian Roman Saturnalia thing. Me, I'm an atheist, but I do really like some of the Christian Christmas music.

Yeah but the pagan celebrations were MIT-licensed, so they were free for the taking; and Christianity didn't have to contribute anything back.

Seriously though, total appropriation (or even just clumsy plagiarism) with practices shifting their meaning is the name of the game when it comes to sacred traditions of all kinds.

(& to get a bit more pedantic, the apocalyptic preacher whose followers laid the foundations of what became the official religion of Rome was likely born a few years earlier than our '0 A.D.'; & the Gospels themselves hint towards Spring time for his birth — not that they contain much by way of factual info, apart from the note concerning the poor guy's execution as a political criminal.)
