Valve recently put up a fresh Steam Deck Client Beta, along with a new SteamOS Preview release and together they fix some important issues that appeared.

The first was SteamOS 3.5.10 Preview 'More Tangible' which included a fix for "an issue introduced in a previous preview build where touchpad clicks to fail to register in some circumstances".

Next up is the latest Beta which includes:

General

  • Fixed a case where the client could get stuck in Loading Library Data for users with large amount of non-steam games.
  • Clarified the dialog message shown when trying to access store while using Steam Link from some devices.

Steam Input

  • Fixed an issue that could cause gamepad input to stop in games after a controller disconnect or when the Deck is suspended

So far through December Valve has put up a bigger bunch of fixes in SteamOS 3.5.8 Preview on December 2nd and SteamOS 3.5.9 Preview on December 4th working towards the next stable point-release, to get things cleaned up before the next big refresh for SteamOS 3.6 next year.

What are your hopes for SteamOS 3.6?

3.5.10 slightly broke my Steam Deck. After applying the update and doing the reboot, it sat at the "logging in" logo, spinning endlessly. I thought the damn thing was bricked, until I angrily pressed the Steam button and got the Steam "menu" popping up from the left-hand side. From there I only had "Login", "Settings", and "Power" options. Choosing "Login" did nothing, but "Settings" let me exit the Preview version and get my Steam Deck up and running again (after another reboot).

I'll give it another shot at upgrading over the weekend, but in a year of owning the device and participating in either beta or preview releases, this is the first time I've ever had an issue!

I did hear a few had issues, but I updated my OLED just now to no issues :)

What's your issue with the audio jack? Seems to work just fine for me.

There's some weird crackling noise/static, apparently due to grounding. Depending on your headphones it can be much worse. It's only on the OLED model.

Lots of threads on reddit, like this one:

I'd really like them to sort out the obnoxious notification bell.

For anyone stuck with the library loading, power down your deck and try removing your SD card. For me, this allowed me to boot normally and then I was able to roll back to stable.

So, I re-applied 3.5.10 this morning and it was seamless. No idea what broke the first time I did it, but all working okay now. <shrug>
