It is that time again! Valve launched the Steam Winter Sale 2023 and The Steam Awards are also open for voting for your favourite titles now too.

Look, you know the drill by now, there's no need for some big long introduction right? You'll say you won't be buying any more, because you've already got 401 games you've yet to finish. Let's skip over the lies, you'll end up buying something else, just like I will already have — I finally caved and got NieR:Automata at 60% off (highest Steam discount so far).

Some quick picks:

Dead by Daylight - 65% off - steam deck verified Deck Verified / ProtonDB Silver

Cyberpunk 2077 - 50% off - steam deck verified Deck Verified / ProtonDB Gold

God of War - 50% off - steam deck verified Deck Verified / ProtonDB Gold

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - GOTY Edition - 50% off - steam deck verified Deck Verified / ProtonDB Platinum

Inscryption - 50% off - steam deck playable Deck Playable / Native Linux

Valheim - 40% off - steam deck verified Deck Verified / Native Linux

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered - 40% off - steam deck verified Deck Verified / ProtonDB Gold

Cassette Beasts - 25% off - steam deck verified Deck Verified / Native Linux

Baldur's Gate 3 - 10% off, first ever sale - steam deck verified Deck Verified / ProtonDB Gold

Looking over the Steam Awards, I'm genuinely surprised to see that the "Most Innovative Gameplay Award" category…has Starfield in the runnings. Now, I'm not one to jump on games but — most innovative, Starfield, really? What crazy gamers thought it should be there? Anyway, voting in each category unlocks various special Steam Chat Stickers for you.

Check out the sale on Steam and the Steam Awards here.

The Steam Winter Sale 2023 runs until January 4th, 6PM UTC. What will you be picking up?

Quoting: StoneColdSpiderYeah its like the Video Game Awards all over again........ Maybe the Doritos Pope is actually more in tune with the average modern gamer that we think he is.......
Now THAT's a scary thought!

Quoting: StoneColdSpiderHey..... Whats wrong with Contraband Police????.......
I meant Starfield. Pretty sure it doesn't belong in that category.

The first trading-card I got for checking my Discovery Queue during the sale was a penguin, too.

Quoting: PenglingI wasn't especially enthused about voting in The Steam Awards - only one of my nominees got through (Pizza Tower, for Best OST), so seeing mis-nominations such as the one for Most Innovative Gameplay rankles quite a bit.

That said, there are a few things that I'll be picking up.

Brotato (Steam, £2.99)
Gimmick! Special Edition (Steam, £7.79)
Gravity Circuit (Fanatical, £8.85)

I noticed that a few of the higher-priced games that I'm waiting for bigger discounts on were all cheaper at Fanatical this time around, so I'll be keeping a closer eye on that going forward.

You're finally picking up the games I recommended to you; trust me, you won't regret it.

Second round voting is bit less interesting for me too. First round is fun because putting games into the categories needs bit thinking and categories that you don't know about can be skipped.

Second round is bit too random. Also it would be nice to be able to play the nominees to give them a chance. Now either choice is to pick what you have played or just think what's most suitable based bit on popularity.

I've been thoroughly underwhelmed by the sales, these days. Over 100 things on my wishlist, and a lot of it isn't even discounted, and not a single thing discounted under 80%. I remember the good old days when you could clear out your wishlist for a nickel! Bah humbug!

I guess I should just play some of the games I already have.

Don't bother with this one, chaps - it doesn't work properly on the Steam Deck. It randomly slows to a crawl and messes up the audio, and the controls become unresponsive, making it unplayable. What a sorry way to release an emulated early-1990s NES game, which is quite rare and would have benefitted from a good emulated release. I had to request a refund, for the first time ever, and hopefully the last.

Brotato is crazy-addictive! Many thanks!

Gravity Circuit (which I wrote about a while back ) turned out to be great, too - and it's a native Linux title, to boot.

I’ve a tiny wishlist, as i try to keep it under 500 items (five hundred).

Only 8 of them have a 50% discount maximum, about the same with 40% discount, and many with less than 30%.

I remember a time not so far ago, my list was going with -90%, -75% very often.

Of course i understand a cut is a cut, but as a customer, it’s way less exciting.

Also, i use my wishlist more to follow games (the "follow" button is rather useless) than to actually list the game i’m about to buy.
