The Linux Mint team have announced the release of the Edge ISO for the latest Linux Mint 21.3, making it easier to use with newer hardware.

With Linux Mint sticking to an Ubuntu base, they generally go with whatever Linux kernel version is shipped in this case version 5.15. However, newer hardware often needs a newer Linux kernel. Sometimes you might not even be able to boot unless the kernel version is recent enough.

So this is why Linux Mint do EDGE ISOs which give you a newer Linux kernel out of the box and with Linux Mint 21.3 this gives you kernel version 6.5

They do say "The Edge ISO image is not as stable as the other ISOs and may not support as many proprietary drivers. Only use it if you cannot boot or install with the other ISOs", but that kernel is already a good while old being released back in August 2023 and in fact it's actually reached end-of-life so it won't see any more point releases.

You can download it on their website.

Isn't that Kernel from Ubuntu HWE?
If so it's an Ubuntu Kernel and it'll be updated by Canonical's devs.
To clarify: this is just meant to help with a fresh install on newer hardware that is not supported by the 5.15 LTS Kernel. Kernel 6.5 has been available via the update manager on existing Mint installations for quite a while.

A bit of R&B, but it's Mint, so it definitely comes with some G.
