Tomb Raider I-III Remastered is releasing from Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics on February 14th, and now Valve have given it the green tick of approval as it is now Steam Deck Verified. It was tested on the latest stable Proton 8 release, so as long as you use that across Steam Deck / Desktop Linux you should be good to go.

With this bundle you'll get Tomb Raider I + Unfinished Business, Tomb Raider II + Golden Mask and Tomb Raider III + The Lost Artifact. Aspyr say it has upgraded graphics, with the option to switch to the original polygon look at any time.

Will you be picking it up to have a nostalgia blast? Worth pointing out the open source re-implementation of Tomb Raider 1 (1996) TR1X also exists. Remasters can be a pretty great thing to bring new audiences to older games, although they don't always hit, so hopefully Aspyr were careful with the Tomb Raider I-III Remastered collection.

I probably will*, but it probably won't be at launch - I want to wait to hear others' experiences of running it on Linux first.

*If it's saddled with DRM I won't touch it with a ten-foot pole - I'll go the TR1X route in that case. But the Steam page doesn't currently suggest its presence, thankfully.
My first game to pre-order on Steam!
I've been waiting for a long time to be able to play this trilogy in good conditions and on recent hardware.
I hope the remasters will live up to my expectations.

Expansions are the big deal for me. Hopefully, that Times level is coming with TR4.

Not to mention: I hope this is functional. After the many technological trainwrecks of 2023 especially I just assume that it won't be, and hope to be proven wrong.

This is going on my Steam wish list. Not my old wish list which had no chance of ever being completed but my new cut down must-have wish list. I'm so far behind on what I already have to play!

I'm going to start getting more stuff on Gog as well, so maybe this.

Really wondering about the controls, because you have people who love, and people who hate tank controls.
This blog mentions Tomb Raider I-III Remastered will support both, with the modern controls taking inspiration from the Legend trilogy:

I'm getting this from Microsoft actually. Cause it's Play Anywhere from them. I'll get it eventually, but not right away. It's on my wishlist though.

Also, I don't know if it'll feel the same as playing it in DOS or on the Sega Saturn. Playing it on there just as some charm too. Even with DOSBox.

I will almost 100% picking it up, and it's great that it's already been verified before even release

This one in particular hits me in the nostalgic feels, I'm 34 this year and grew up playing these games on PC, fond memories of being sat next to my dad watching the warm glow of the crt.. and searching for topless lara on the dial up 😂

I'm also from Derby so feel very proud of its heretidge, we have a road here called "lara croft way" in her honour 😊

So did you also play Destruction Derby back in the day? :)

It's sad this remaster doesn't get a physical release, not even for Switch. But getting Deck Verified ahead of release is great, I'll probably buy it, the tank controls is what aged worst in these games and having an option to control the camera with the right stick is a good selling point.

I wonder how this is going to play with modernised controls. The old games were very measured, deliberate, designed with precision in mind, so if those running jumps get less frustrating to execute I'd imagine that, say, all the ledge-to-ledge hops forward where you knew the exact distance of a jump and used that to your advantage might become a bit... fiddly in turn?

I'm glad they're offering a choice - that's a good sign.

Oh.. cool. It looks like they're giving a discount on it too for old people like me, who own the originals ones![1]

In fairness, this is aspyr. They have a reputation for not doing that. Or at least, I've yet to see one of their releases to have DRM.

(I could be wrong, ofc)

Yes, we definitely need a physical release of Lara Croft!

[1] Which I accepted the offer for. Oops.

Honestly, I have no real familiarity with Aspyr, aside from remembering them being a big name back when I was a Mac user, and how they recently got into legal trouble for false advertising. I'm just cautious after Capcom's recent addition of undeclared DRM to a bunch of older releases. That's good to know, though - thanks!

Users that like classic games could also be interested in a singleplayer mode in OpenMoHAA:

I wouldn't have noticed that discount, honestly (apparently it's 20% off on the preorder instead of the regular 10%, for anyone wondering).

Still not buying until I know what I'm getting.

Aspyr got overexcited, I think, and failed to consider the red tape. Mods are grey area at best, and they tried to release one (and get it certified by Nintendo, AND likely approved by certain other third parties, I'd imagine) as official dlc. There's no way they didn't have that working and couldn't release it for any reason other than someone or something external explicitly stopping them from doing so. What they intended to release and got sued for not releasing you can get working - PC aside - with the android port, and you can still install it on the Switch yourself, if you jailbreak the device.

Sorry for the stupidly late reply, but no I didn't :(

I kind of miss only being able to play the games you were bought as a kid, these days I cam just play any game I want

Hmmm.. I might even try and get Destruction Derby running "somehow" on a certain ducky something station ;) see how it is

OH and one game I did love was Carmageddon as a kid, C2 specifically, and that game was 100% inspired by banger racing
