CodeWeavers have announced the release of CrossOver 24, their application for managing games and applications designed for Windows installed with Wine on Linux and macOS. CodeWeavers support development on Wine and they also work with Valve on Proton!

CrossOver 24 includes these big improvements:

  • Wine 9.0bringing with it over 7,000 changes that offer improvements to a variety of applications
  • Wine Mono 8.1.0
  • vkd3d 1.10
  • MoltenVK 1.2.5

Plus they've also upgraded the CrossOver UI to include some much requested additions like the ability to drag and drop files onto the app to install and run them, which includes a new ability to create a launcher for it at the same time too. On top of that there's also the inclusion of a feature to change the directory of where your bottles are stored.

Additionally for Linux they also noted the new Office 365 installers now work and they fixed crashes with PowerPoint 2016/365 but they noted "only the 32-bit online Office installers work". See more in the blog post.

They're also still hiring developers with multiple positions open. This includes a General Wine Developer, Web Developer and an Administrative Operations Associate that you can see on their jobs page.

Check it out on the CodeWeavers website. They're also offering a discount of 24% off the price of CrossOver+ and renewals until March 2, 2024 with the code WineNine.

Hm, they said they're looking into Flatpak release in one of theit threads. Looks like it won't be for this year unless there's a surprise release on their mid-year update.

A shame, because Flatpak would solve the issue of the headache inducing dependencies they have (especially for Office 365 which is my main purpose of getting CrossOver)

Ha, I bought a lifetime version for my macbook. Then of course Apple announced their integrated game playing thing... which I still haven't messed with.

The M1 Macbook is great for performance and being quiet and having great battery life... until you open a fairly simple Unity engine program and the fans go crazy, and it turns off the sleep and your battery drains because you thought it went to sleep... Or maybe that was just Dungeon Alchemist that did that...
