If you want to grab games from GOG on Linux and Steam Deck (or even macOS and Windows), there's some good news for you. The Heroic Games Launcher just released version 2.13 which brings with it their overhaul to GOG support.

Heroic supports Amazon, Epic Games and GOG as well as installing pretty much anything else with Wine / Proton! Especially great for Linux / Steam Deck to get all those extra games working easily.

Here's the main GOG support changes in v2.13:

  • Reworked downloading module.
  • Xdelta-based patching support for Windows and Mac builds.
  • Automatic installation of game dependencies as long as they are provided by GOG (Windows builds).
  • New implementation of install script interpreter.
  • Faster way of downloading and updating Linux native games.
  • Beta channels support for Windows and Mac builds (it's now possible to access Metro Exodus: Enhanced Edition).
  • Support for password-protected beta channels (potentially useful for game devs who want to try out GOG build in Heroic).
  • Version rollback for Windows and Mac builds.
  • Ability to view changelogs on the game page.
  • Ability to change game language at any point (Windows and Mac builds).
  • Ability to install and uninstall DLCs at any point (Windows and Mac builds).
  • REDMod integration for Cyberpunk 2077.

Other changes:

  • Added a message on the library when no games were found due to filters applied or not logged in on any stores
  • Improved the Wine settings install dialog for Windows games on Linux and macOS
  • Winetricks fixes are enabled by default now
  • Added Wine/Proton explanation on Wine Manager
  • Several UI/UX and performance improvements
  • Fix the width of the image in the Add Game dialog
  • Fix calculation of appName from command parts
  • Pass --skip-sdl when updating/repairing Epic games
  • Several other small fixes

Since some people were asking us on Mastodon, we added more info to clarify the GOG Modify installation, DLCs, etc:

QuoteWhen we say Windows builds it means it is a Windows game but the feature also works on Linux and macOS.
So it is possible to manage DLCs, modify installation of Windows games on Linux and macOS.
It is not possible to change native Linux games though.

Yeah! IndieGala, EA and Itch.io are being cooked right now, soon we will have more news about them.

The list of remaining targets is shrinking^^ Can only think about MS Gamepass, Battle.net and Ubi being major platforms to do.
Huge thanks to the team for tackling all the hard , probably unpaid , work.

May I ask why IndieGala and not Humble? I honestly didn't even realise IndieGala still existed haha

Thanks for the amazing work tho, Heroic is a godsend!

Wow, just wow. Post-setup support for adding/removing DLC and switching languages, xdelta patching (no more downloading the whole game with each update, yay!), version pinning, channel selection... That's amazing.

Coupled with the incoming ULWGL which will provide support for protonfixes and will make gaming out of Steam practically as hassle-free as gaming on Steam, this means that all that's left for having a fully functional GOG client on Linux is decoupling support for the online features (multiplayer, achievements, in-game rewards, etc) from the Galaxy client.

Sure, wishful thinking, but wait a minute... an official partnership with GOG for buying games through Heroic? Could it be that GOG are finally, slowly beginning to take Linux gaming via Proton into serious consideration? Could it be that they're finally warming up to the notion of at least semi-officially allowing and/or helping the community to build a good client for GOG, given that they can't or don't want to do it themselves? Could it be that they've realized the Galaxy client is a dud and are exploring their options?

That would be even more amazing.

It is a community project and every developer works on what he prefers. Maybe it is easier, maybe there is no community member that has games there?
I personally only got steam keys from humble in the past, so it might just not be worth the time :)

You can already buy GOG games through Heroic via the Stores section. Clicking on GOG Store opens the GOG website where you'll be logged in with the same credentials as in the rest of the app.

Oh, it makes complete sense if it's made by a user that wants it implemented.

It's just that as a user that has Humble Choice (I assume - but could be wrong - there are probably more Humble Choice subs than people who use IndieGala :p) it would be nice to be able to get the games from the choice library onto my Deck using Heroic. I don't want to install Lutris or Bottles. I have OCD so when things get too chaotic I end up just factory resetting lol.

Thanks for your reply tho! :D

Hell yeah, I've wanted itch.io on Heroic for a while.
