System76 makers of Pop!_OS, various laptops and the stylish Thelio desktop line have announced a big refresh for their line of laptops. Featuring newer 14th Gen Intel CPUs, this is coming as part of their new "Ambition Unfolds" campaign.
They recently refreshed the Bonobo WS and Serval WS models, which are their most powerful and expensive offerings and they will soon be giving the same treatment to their cheaper Oryx Pro and Adder WS models too with the newer 14th Gen Intel i9 14900HX.
“Providing customers with a fast, hassle-free, and long-lasting computer minimizes obstacles for these users while accelerating progress.” says Sam Mondlick, VP Sales of System76. “For this reason, System76 dedicates themselves to empowering users to elevate their work on well-engineered systems.”
The main changes they noted are:
- Adder WS - 14th Gen update, 15” only, new chassis design and up to 12 TB storage option - coming March 5th.
- Oryx Pro - 14th Gen update, upgrade from H-class to HX-class CPU (now 24 cores vs 14 cores) - coming "soon".
- Bonobo WS - 14th Gen update, now with options to choose between a 2K (240Hz) or 4K (144Hz) 17” display - available now.
- Serval WS - 14th Gen update, new 17” 2K (240Hz) display option - available now.

I think we're finally starting to see some 16:10 displays from S76 as well, at least the next Orxy Pro is listed as having it upcoming. I own two older Oryx Pros, but I've admittedly been more recently really spoiled by Dell XPS and HP Elitebook levels of hardware quality... I'm really looking forward to S76's eventual bespoke laptops, however...

I probably won't be tempted to get a laptop upgrade until the second generation of thunderbolt 5 controllers are released. Second generation because adopters of the first generation are basically beta testers.

The day I can get some money, I'm buying myself one of their machines. Love the work of these guys. I feel like we not always have enough info on everything they make. But we fortunately have the dev mmstick to give us his insights :-)

The current model (oryp11) has a 16:10 panel as well.

There would be things about how the auto updates work in the background. Having a better explanation on what the Pop shop is doing and how it is managing the resources.
I'm always curious and like to know what exactly the system is doing with my actions. It's really useful information to know when you could be doing something that could alter something on the system.
I remember one day I asked on Reddit. If I remember right, mmstick answered me about how the update system worked, and it indeed helped me to know if enabling the option was a good idea. I guess it'd be great for them to put like some kind of small feedback on the system to know what's happening when you enable certain things or even a small FAQ for more curious minds.
I really think it'd be really useful.
Bear in mind it's just my opinion.

Most of the information on the [Support site](support.system76.com) is made by the support and QA teams but some ideas are from community input. If you can link to the Reddit comment that would be good but trying to figure out what information is needed. The backend of the Pop!_Shop is Packagekit which then calls apt/dpkg and flatpak from my understanding.
