Valve released two separate Proton updates for Linux / Steam Deck as they push forward to the next stable release with Proton 9.0. Most of the changes are fixing up regressions this time to get it ready for the main public release.
The changes for the Proton 9.0 Beta 15 are:
Fixed a few Proton 9.0 regressions:
- Alan Wake, Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition, Total War: WARHAMMER III are playable again.
- Placeholder videos now play correctly in Ultimate Marvel VS. Capcom 3 and Resident Evil 0.
- Fixed mouse clicks registering twice in Warframe and TrackMania Nations Forever.
- Epic Game Store no longer fails to launch.
As for the Proton Experimental update for March 15th the changes are:
- All changes from Proton 9.0 Beta 15.
- Fixed Cities: Skylines not being playable on Intel GPUs.
- Fixed GRIS showing error window when exiting the game.
- Fixed a few 9.0 regressions:
- ETHER VAPOR Remaster is playable again.
- Fixed Risk of Rain 2 being unable to start a multiplayer lobby.
- Trove no longer crashes when going through inventory.
- The Last Of Us Part I no longer drops FPS when moving mouse.
- DayZ is able to connect to servers again.
To change the version of Proton used go into the Properties on a game -> Compatibility menu. Tick the box and then select the version you want from the drop-down box.
No set date for the Proton 9.0 main release yet, just whenever Valve feel it's ready.
