Valve has released an update to Proton Experimental to further improve the Windows game compatibility on Steam Deck and Linux PCs. Here's all that's changed for the March 8th update.
Now Playable: Warlords Battlecry III.
- Fixed a few 9.0 regressions:
- Epic Game Store is able to launch again.
- Gungrave G.O.R.E no longer has hitching video playback.
- Fixed Apex Legends hanging on a black screen after a recent game update.
- Fixed Descent 3 not being playable on system using long Steam Library paths.
While Valve also recently did a Proton Hotfix for Apex Legends, it should no longer be needed, as you can just use Proton Experimental now.
Also interesting to see Valve fix up the Epic Games Store in Proton like this. While it's not available on Steam obviously, plenty of people do run it with Proton on Steam Deck to get more games. And the thing is, often fixes for one app will fix issues in something else - so it's always worth doing.
You can just select Proton Experimental in the Properties -> Compatibility menu on each game.

Indeed, I don't think I've ever owned Battlecry 3, but I have the CDs for 1 and 2 around here somewhere. And of course the Baldur's Gate + Tales of the Swordcoast booklet of CDs as well, that one I know where it is. It still has as an honorary spot on my shelf.

I very much recommend this Total Conversion/Upgrade mod for WBC3, it's standalone (but you gotta own WBC3 on Steam):

It is also on ModDB, where it doesn't require you to own WBC3.
It does change things around quite a bit.
And also comes with lots of QoL improvements, makes it work better in larger resolutions, adds a lot of sub-factions to the already 10-12 or so factions, includes several campaigns like the WBC2 campaign (you need to go to custom campaigns for these), etc.
Also a rather active Discord.
IMO the way to play this gem nowadays.
