Another milestone for Valve here, as the Steam Deck has now managed to hit the 14,000 mark for games that are rated either Playable or Verified.
Using the list from SteamDB since that includes games you may own on Steam that have been delisted from the store, but are still playable, it's an impressive number and there's going to be something for everyone. Although, Valve's rating system is just one measure, even some Unsupported games can be made to run - and you can install and play anything, this is just what Valve have actually tested.
The numbers are at time of writing with 14,010 overall Playable + Verified:
- Verified: 4,604
- Playable: 9,406
- Unsupported: 3,920
Some interesting recently Verified games from over the last month or so include:
STAR WARS: Battlefront Classic Collection
Game compatibility is about to take another leap forwards too, with the Windows compatibility layer Proton 9.0 currently in Beta. Exciting times!
Here guys and gals, a toast, to Valve, and the 14,000 games milestone! For without them... Linux gaming would not be the same...

I still wish steam would have another badge rather than "unsupported" for games which work perfectly fine on linux more generally. I can't tell you how many "unsupported" games I've played without any issue whatsoever. Miraculously the situation is *way better* than the number of "verified" and "playable" games would indicate.
The problem seems to be that Valve doesn't really give games a second pass once they've gone through the Verification process once, unless the game is popular enough for Valve to notice. Sadly, I'm not sure what the solution is here.

It's been bizarre to see.

- Feb 2, 2024: Game was marked as Verified.
- March 9, 2024: EA released a new launcher and the game is now Unsupported.
- March 15, 2024: Game was marked as Verified, launcher now works in Proton Hotfix.
- November 9th, 2024: Game now requires BattlEye Anticheat and the developers don't want to turn it on for Proton. Game is now marked as Unsupported.
And there should be crowd-sourced reports, like on ProtonDB. Ask users, Is This Game a Good Experience? and Do You Agree With Our Rating? once in a while. With enough reports, Valve could get testers to re-investigate.

For starters, have a history:This. It also serves as shaming for persons that like to brake compatibility by updating their shitty launcher.

Pop's a bottle of ChampaignChampaign? What's that? I only ever heard of Champagne
Proceeds to chug down the entire bottle anyway. Smashes the empty bottle on the ground.

Sham Pain. But don't take it, accept only the real thing.Pop's a bottle of ChampaignChampaign? What's that? I only ever heard of Champagne
Part of Pyretic's point here I think is that there are lots of games that run fine on Linux and perfectly great on a desktop/laptop, but which are from Valve's point of view accurately rated "unsupported" because they don't work well with the Deck's controls and screen size and whatnot. It would be nice if we could tell the difference between those and games that actually don't run on Linux.I still wish steam would have another badge rather than "unsupported" for games which work perfectly fine on linux more generally.
