Embracer Group continue to sell off more with the latest being Gearbox, which has been picked up by Take-Two Interactive in a $460 million deal.
As noted in the Embracer press release that Gearbox Software (Frisco, Texas), Gearbox Montréal, Gearbox Studio Quebec along with the Borderlands and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands franchises, as well as Homeworld, Risk of Rain, Brothers in Arms and Duke Nukem will be going to Take-Two Interactive.
Embracer will however keep hold of Gearbox Publishing San Francisco (to be renamed prior to closing, formerly named Perfect World Entertainment), including the publishing rights to the Remnant franchise, the upcoming Hyper Light Breaker and other notable unannounced game releases. They also keep Cryptic Studios, including MMO titles Neverwinter Online and Star Trek Online, Lost Boys Interactive and Captured Dimensions.
Interestingly the deal is being done using "100% in newly issued Take-Two shares", which Embracer said they plan to "sell these shares to receive cash proceeds soon after closing".
In a separate press release for Take-Two, it confirms "Gearbox currently has six key interactive entertainment projects in various stages of development, including five sequels, two of which are from the Borderlands and Homeworld franchises, and at least one exciting new intellectual property" - so Borderlands 4 is coming then it seems.
Quoting: Linux_RocksHow long until a GTA-style Borderlands game? 🤔...not until they run out of bubblegum?

Don't forget Battleborn lol
Quoting: KimyrielleI guess every studio saved from Embracer's grasp is a good thing?
Not when they fall right into Take Two's grasp.

Going by GTA time, you'll have to wait for at least a decade before it ever becomes a thing.
Maybe Valve could work something out with Take Two and then give "Half-Life: Opposing Force & Blue Shift" the same treatment they gave Half-Life 1 for its 25th anniversary? I don't even know if it wasn't possible before.
Or maybe all this is now even less likely because Take Two is terrible?
We'll see (or not).
Has Randy Pitchford finally made enough money to stop orally servicing Tim Sweeney?
Will "Epic Games Exclusive" be ending for the Borderlands franchise?
CAN WE PLEASE HAVE "ALL PLATFORMS" on launch day?
A WORKING AAA GAME on launch day?
If a game studio/publisher is charging full price for a game on launch day,
it should have only minor bugs, and full video driver support from all 3 vendors.
Please people, stop buying broken, beta software that they pushed out the door to make their targeted launch day.
Let a few early adopters buy it. Read the reviews (not the ones from "The Paid Influencers".
If the game is effed off, wait 6-12 months and buy it on sale.
Stop rewarding them for putting out broken stuff/beta software!
