Paradox Interactive today announced a brand new expansion to Stellaris with The Machine Age, that will have your society face new ethical and social dilemmas along with new threats.

"A new age of galactic adventure begins. As your scientists discover ever more advanced means to commune with the machine, your society will face new ethical and social dilemmas. Biological species grapple with the effects of rapid augmentation, while the very nature of identity is thrown into question by the rise of synthetic consciousness. Meanwhile, in an otherwise unremarkable corner of the galaxy, a robotic empire has arisen with individualistic personalities. A democratically elected government now presides over the fate of these singular Machines."

The main new features:

  • NEW ENDGAME CRISIS AND CRISIS PATH - Players will face a new synthetic threat in a brand-new Endgame Crisis, or will themselves become the threat for the balance of the universe in a new Crisis Path.
  • INDIVIDUALISTIC MACHINES - Your machine empires are no longer limited to gestalt consciousness and can have individual personalities and more diverse stories and origins. Further customize your empire with 3 new Machine Ascension Paths.
  • NEW SITUATIONS AND ADVANCED AUTHORITY SWAP - As you delve ever closer to the mind of the machine, you will have to face new challenges for your society. Every decision matters and the only certainty is that your empire will not be the same after its Ascension.
  • 3 NEW ORIGINS
    • Cybernetic Creed: Your empire pursues a divine calling: the holy fusion of the body and cybernetics. Augmentation is worship.
    • Synthetic Fertility: Once a thriving society, a novel genetic disease leaves your empire unable to reproduce biologically. Digital salvation seems the only option to avoid extinction.
    • Arc Welders: Hailing from a world starved for space, a robotic society turns to the stars for resources.

Paradox said it will also have new reactive portraits, 6 new Civics, 2 new mid-game structures (the molten Arc Furnace and powerful Dyson Swarm), new Population Traits, and 7 brand new music tracks.

It will launch along side the free Stellaris 3.12 'Andromeda' update, no exact release date announced other than sometime during "second quarter of 2024" (April - June).

Stellaris is available from GOGHumble Store and Steam. It has Native Linux support.

Sweet, added to my GOG wishlist.
Seems like this could be a good one. I'm particularly pleased about

The idea that robots had to be a gestalt consciousness never made much sense to me. Or probably to R. Daneel Olivaw, among others.
Non-gestalt machine empires‽‽ 😯 Finally!

Oh, and a new Crisis sounds pretty neat too. And more origins are always fun.

I had been thinking about stopping buying proprietary games, but I think I can make an exception with this hehe

I have an issue in this game where ALL the images are not displayed in game (avatars..etc). I tried to verify, reinstall, disable all DLCs, all downloadable content ...etc to no avail. Unfortunately, I cannot play this game due to this annoying bug. Anyone have any ideas?

No, unfortunately. A quick search of the technical support forum turned up this, but I can't tell how similar that is to what you're seeing.
