So we finally know what the mysterious Triple-i Initiative thing is! It's a big gaming showcase full of announcements and new footage for upcoming games centred around triple-i games and studios (big indies).

There's going to be a lot too, and I really do mean a lot. The event will be 45 minutes long starting April 10th at 10am PT / 7pm CEST / 5pm UTC and it will be pure gaming. So no adverts or extra fluff forced into it, just a feast for gamers wanting to see some great upcoming stuff.

What actually will be in it? Expect to see over 30 games with announcements and special reveals from the likes of the people behind Vampire Survivors, Slay the Spire, Darkest Dungeon, Hyper Light Drifter, Risk of Rain, Humble Games publisher, Assemble Entertainment and the list goes on.

From the press release:

“We felt a need for a showcase that highlights wildly different indie games but that have one thing in common; they resonate with millions of players around the world. Since using letters seems to be the trend in the industry, we figured that adding a couple of i’s to indie was a fair way to describe this new format. Also, triple-i just sounds cool," said Bérenger Dupré, Evil Empire’s Marketing Director.

“The goal is to have a straight-to-the-point show packed with announcements as a collective of studios, to speak directly to players, the people who have been directly supporting us since day 1. The show will run for about 45 minutes, featuring news by the most successful and creative folks out there. No hosting segments, no advertisements, no sponsorships, no extra fluff, just games,” added Benjamin Laulan, Evil Empire’s COO.

Apparently there's going to be something new revealed for Brotato during this broadcast. Interesting!

Pretty interesting list of companies in this showcase and hopefully, there's some good games that come out of it that'll work on the Steam Deck/Linux

Yeah, it’s called marketing.
Hmm, 7am in Hawaii…on a Wednesday…it does sound interesting though. Maybe I'll see about tuning in.

Oddly reminiscent of 'Tri-Optimum'.

especially if it works, and imho it looks like it will work

they're creating a brand that offers quantity, variety and quality from a pooled effort which isn't as easy to be bought and closed as they are each on their own (but the brand won't risk damaging their editorial independence, like a company that buys indies to support indies would)

and they're doing so in a world saturated with AAA games that consistently disappoint gamers with anti-consumer trends, unpayable pricepoints, broken launchers, half-terabyte installs, etc

plus the camera might love them and their show, so they'll finally get some upper-tier free ads like AAA's always get

and last but not least, the contrast created by lining up indies side-by-side will most likely put to shame the beaten game formulas several AAA publishers rely on to push their products out year-on-year (Square cof... cof... Enix... COF!)

allowing myself to dream out loud: now we just need them to throw in some linux/deck native support pledge and ideally put fitlijibibo and the rest of the motley crew in the same repo cranking out some FOSS crossplatform & cross-vendor game APIs (SDL3 is coming along) that can help them push the same game builds to steam, gog and etc (think steam controller API features like dinamic in-game controller button faces, a steam networking api alternative, etc)

That would immensely help removing excuses some devs use to not support linux native builds, while likely making life easier for themselves, if they can afford it (which is not guaranteed... those are really small studios)
