Bazzite 3.0 has been released with the internals upgraded to Fedora 40, which brings with it numerous improvements for gamers looking to get Linux on their PC or handheld gaming device like a Steam Deck or ROG Ally.

A great alternative to SteamOS, which is still exclusive to the Steam Deck from Valve.

For Steam Deck OLED support they said it's ready to the point that "it should be mostly functional", however there's at least one major issue left which "has to do with audio crashing when switching to Desktop Mode" and some other issues related to HDR support.

Major Changes:

  • Upgraded to Fedora 40
    • KDE Plasma 6
    • GNOME 46
    • Linux Kernel 6.8
    • AMD/Intel GPU driver upgrades
  • Ayn Loki Max support
  • Ayn Loki Zero support
  • Improvements for supported handhelds
    • HHD Overlay is now stable
    • Gyro support parity with Lenovo Legion Go
    • Charge limits set for Lenovo Legion Go
    • ASUS ROG Ally custom TDP that use the kernel driver
    • Custom fan curve support for ASUS ROG Ally
  • Added CDEmu
  • Added Ollama ujust command
  • Added fastfetch
  • Added zoxide

The future for it sounds pretty bright with them working on various background improvements, like an easier workflow for getting needed kernel patches sorted in Fedora. They said they have "a clear vision about the project and have goals for the future reflecting that vision". More on that in the announcement.

I'm so glad that someone is trying anee gamepad like operating system for handhelds. It's nice to have alternatives to SteamOS, plus ChimeraOS and HoloISO (which aren't as bleeding edge as this)

I always wonder if there is a visible improvement in a game between bazzite or steamos. I think the difference are very small.
