To celebrate Alien Day, one developer decided to make a fan game with Aliens: Redacted now available on itch.io. Only officially available for Windows, I've confirmed it does run well with Wine 9.7.

Giving some big Alien Trilogy vibes that was released back in 1996 for PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and MS-DOS this dark and spooky shooter is worth a run through if you're an Aliens fan and you love retro games. I put quite a few hours into Alien Trilogy on the Saturn and remember it terrifying me. I am also big Aliens nut, so this was an instant-play for me.

Features:

  • Battle against hordes of Xenomorphs using the iconic weaponry from the franchise.
  • Explore unique and varied environments as you traverse through familiar locales from the movies such as the egg chamber and space jockey navigation room.
  • Complete numerous objectives and attempt to escape with your life.
  • Figure out what happened to the fate of the USS Boethiah's crew and prisoners.
  • Prepare for an intense battle against the infamous Xenomorph Queen as you try to put a stop to the ferocious alien infestation on planet LV-059.

Coooooool.

FYI, I had some terrible input stuttering when I first launched the game, apparently because it didn't seem like that I had a gamepad connected. Unplugged, relaunched, and ran just fine.
Oh wow! this was very unexpected! thank you so much for the article. I was wondering where so much of the traffic was coming from

I hope you enjoyed playing and happy Alien day everyone!

Looks like the Doom engine? Would be nice if it ran with GZDoom.

Edit: Sounds like it's using EFPSE, a tool that's similar to (based on?) those older engines:

Weird, I'm getting sever performance drops depending on the direction I'm looking. No settings seem to have any effect.

If anyone is having trouble with gameplay being akin to wading through molasses, try disabling the gamepads in wine. You can do this selecting the wine prefix and then inputting wine control joy.cpl and moving the detected gamepads to the disabled section.
This made my game very playable, though I still have an issue with the mouse occasionally having me look at the ceiling!

This is just the game telling you not to look in that bad direction that probably has nasty monsters you don't want to see anyway.

I mean… if you can’t see them, they can’t see you right? Right?!? 😬
