The Orange Pi NEO is an exciting looking gaming device, following in the footsteps of the Steam Deck being powered by Linux. Recently the price was revealed, and the Manjaro Linux head Philip Müller did a talk on it.

This is the first time I've seen Orange Pi themselves actually posting about it publicly (at least in the West). Most of the communication on this has been from the Manjaro Linux team directly so far, and the video mostly goes over what has already been announced about it. Still, it's nice to see an increasing presence for the upcoming release.

It's a terrible presentation. The guy not being a great speaker doesn't help.

No screws on the outside, because those tiny screw holes look so bad! Said noone ever. So, you have to damage the case to open it? Fsck that.

They talk about cooling well, but they don't talk about fan noise, a crucial element in a handheld.

Large battery and 4 hours battery MAX??? Wow.

A lot of technical details which are largely irrelevant and not addressing any usability key points.

I wish them all the best, but I wonder if they are able to get back their R&D costs. I see Windows appearing on it very soon to try and appease the mass market.
Sorry, but this presentation feels a lot like they took the German Manjaro guy, and forced him to present slides that were originally written in Chinese and translated to English via Google Translate. The horrible AI voice in the advertisement video at the beginning of the presentation doesn't help it either.

I love the Denglish though: "Millimeter-Quadrat".

I was wondering why they didn't include any of the speaker's speech in this one that came out earlier... https://youtu.be/fxgxD7hClBc

Why a 1920x1200 120Hz display? I mean you can always turn down the resolution. But my Lenovo T14 sports exactly the same APU, memory configuration and display resolution (at 60Hz) - and let me tell you: At FHD most games are far from "smoothly playable".
It's a calm OK presentation but did he say the boot process is 2 minutes? Shouldn't he probably have said the initial setup process is 2 minutes or something along those lines? Or is the actual BOOT as long as 2 minutes!?

Is it just me or is the initial feature trailer not just read but also written by ai?

Why a 1920x1200 120Hz display?
Because bignums. And clearly it doesn't help the battery-life, as predicted in previous threads on this device.

I'm not a big fan of Manjaro but I'm glad to see more Linux OSes on gaming hardware!
