Okay this is quite a surprise! The excellent Crypt of the NecroDancer just got a surprise addition with a Hatsune Miku DLC launch. I know plenty of you will be buying this right? What a strange yet wonderful expansion to a nearly 9 year old game, and you know what, it fits perfectly.

The DLC adds in:

  • Play as Hatsune Miku -- attack by dancing through enemies, including clusters of enemies, while wielding a leek.
  • Move in all 8 directions.
  • No shovel -- dig by dashing through enemies into walls instead.
  • Charm enemies with your new ability: SING!
  • Dress to impress: all armors are reskinned as official Miku outfits.
  • Dance along to 15 Hatsune Miku songs added to the soundtrack, including two all new Miku tracks created by Danny Baranowsky!

Well, that's a collection of words I never expected to read as a headline.

Did they ever make the game 64-bit? I remember giving up on it due to it hitting "large file" bug (very common bug for low quality 32-bit releases which many old Unity games suffered from).

Basically, when building anything 32-bit you need to tell the compiler to handle 64-bit file descriptors, otherwise your program can fail on some filesystems. Search for _FILE_OFFSET_BITS - it should always be set to 64 for games these days, or better everything should be 64-bit already.

I like Crypt of the Necrodancer but I never got very far because I suck. I should fiddle with it some more.

Yes it has 64bit nowadays, at least on Steam it does, which also has the legacy 32bit version too but 64bit is the default.

w00t!

Good to know, thanks! I have a GOG version I can check for updates.

For a little more background, a group of fans were working on an engine reimplementation from scratch with the goal of more advanced modding support and online multiplayer. Brace Yourself Games ended up hiring them to make that rewrite into the official game + Synchrony DLC.

I really think this title is cool and I wanted to see if it was real or what. I searched on google only to realise that title is not given to anyone yet ! So is it a fact now ?

I looked, the official site has Creative Commons BY-NC character designs. It wouldn't cover this (commercial) DLC; and copyleft would be BY-SA. I don't know how the music is licensed (when going through Vocaloid software or without) either, and I think there's a lively doujin scene that would mostly ignore copyright as long as the players don't look too big. It is a form of remix culture, but not the same as open source or copyleft.

Anyway, she's a fun character to play, very dynamic, but not an easy one (like the other "don't stop moving to the beat" characters)

...Is it strange that this DLC was the last straw that pushed me to finally buy the game?
