Well, here it is Vault Dwellers, the big update to Fallout 4 you've been waiting on after binge-watching the Fallout show. The announcement goes over all the changes, which includes stuff for consoles we are of course not bothered about here but the rest of it sounds pretty good.

This update includes getting the game officially Steam Deck Verified, which Valve tested on Proton 9 that is now set as the default for it. The problem is that they've hidden the launcher, just like they did with Skyrim, but you can get it back in the same way with this Steam launch option: SteamDeck=0 %command% if you do wish to change some graphics settings.

There's also proper ultra-wide support, an "Installed Content" menu, along with new Creation Club items that has two quests attached. The "Echoes of the Past" quest that can give you:

  • X-02 Power Armor
  • Hellfire Power Armor
  • Heavy Incinerator
  • Tesla Cannon
  • Enclave Weapon Skins
  • Enclave Armor Skins

Plus the "When Pigs Fly" quest that gives you a Makeshift Weapon Pack which includes:

  • Two grenade launchers
  • A Nail Gun
  • Baseball Launcher
  • Saw Blade launcher
  • Piggy bank based weaponry

All the rest of it:

Bug Fixes

  • Resolved issues preventing Japanese and Chinese users from connecting to Bethesda.net (this restores access to Mods).
  • Resolved issue preventing save data from properly loading during the prologue.
  • Resolved issue that could prevent the Vault 111 Door from opening on new games.
  • Resolved issue that could prevent the quest “Go Home” from advancing.
  • Resolved issue that could result in Codsworth being broken on the ground after fast traveling.
  • Resolved issue with mipmaps in DLC.
  • Resolved issue that could result in a softlock when in dialogue with Prestson Garvey.
  • Resolved issue preventing autosaves while fast traveling in Power Armor.
  • Fixed issue where text would occasionally disappear in the Creation Club menu.
  • Resolved issues with text formatting in the credits in Japanese and Chinese.
  • Resolved issue causing the camera to fail when leaving furniture after an extended time.
  • Fixed issue that could misplace quest markers while the VR Workshop Creation was installed alongside Automatron.
  • Resolved issue with player movement in some underwater areas at Thicket Excavations.
  • Resolved issue that could cause corruption within the Settlement system resulting in wrong resource counts and/or destroyed settlements.
  • Resolved issue where the “Level Up” notification would display even if there was not a level up available.
  • Fixed some flickering in Vault 111.
  • Stability improvements.

PC Only

  • Resolved issue preventing saves being made under Windows Usernames with Cyrillic, Chinese, or Japanese characters.

Creation Kit

  • Removed non-functional “Hot Load” button. Removed non-functional “Material Editor” button.
  • Editor IDs longer than 99 characters will no longer crash the editor.
  • Resolved crash that could occur while viewing a quest’s Objectives tab.
  • Resolved hang that could occur while adding a reference to a layer.

You can buy Fallout 4 from:

It's also currently in a big Fanatical Fallout Bundle.

Nah, this was done to patch up a few things for the potential new public coming from the Amazon series.

Yeah, exactly. It's mostly a maintenance patch for all the new players, and it's a pretty old game now too.

I quite enjoyed the Amazon Fallout series, more than I thought I would. I've only played "3" so far and the storyline didn't follow that, so was it based on "FNV" or "4" at all?

This is the same creation engine update that skyrim got a while ago ... basically just updating for modern systems. Ultrawide support, etc... Good update.

They probably put a total of one guy on this last year when they announced it and then promptly forgot he existed... or constantly retasked him to other things and forgot this existed.... then beginning of the year remembered it and added the minor quest stuff.

I have seen some reports that it is still half the frame rate on Steam Deck OLED models. I was hoping that would have been fixed with this update. Hopefully the workarounds that worked before still work...

That's basically a WSGF hack.... not a "next gen update"

Does this fix the fps issue for steam deck oled's?
Sad to see there is still a lack of good HFR support. Going above 60fps just speeds up the game and installing mods for any Bethesda game on Linux is a less than ideal process that doesn't always work. Good to see it's now Deck Verified though.
