Releasing into Early Access on Steam in 2025 with Native Linux support, developer VowelA recently announced their open-world wild west survival game Forty-Niner.

I have seen every (still-extant) John Wayne movie ever made. Even the ~20 early ones that feel like the exact same movie.
My favorites? Big Jake, North to Alaska, and El Dorado.
Fun Fact: North to Alaska's dialogue was almost entirely off the cuff. The bar fight at the beginning also caused the actors to spend a week getting drenched in real beer every day.
I love westerns, so long as they aren't horror-inspired. I prefer the John Wayne or Audie Murphy type to the Singing Cowboy or Clint Eastwood type.
Any western that gives the 7th cavalry their comeuppance also gets my vote.
The last really good one (that wasn't a remake, prequel, or sequel) was Lonesome Dove.
I would kill for a game set in Tombstone (prior to the murder of Morgan Earp), Deadwood (prior to Bill Hickok's death), or one where I could save the lives of roughly 460,000 people.
Here's an idea: let me play as a Native American, instead of a cowboy for once! No, assassins don't count!
Failing that, I'd at least like a game to let me meet the likes of Chief Joseph or Woman Chief aka. Pine Leaf.
Going back a touch further, Osceola would be a good choice to give players a chance to change one of the greatest acts of perfidy ever. Even Jesup's supporters couldn't deny the sheer villainy in that!
Can you tell that I'm talking myself into writing a script for a game yet?
