The next version of the Linux performance overlay MangoHud is close, with a release candidate up now and ready for testing with MangoHud version 0.7.2-rc1.

What is it? A Vulkan and OpenGL overlay for monitoring FPS, temperatures, CPU/GPU load and more on top of games and applications. You can use it on Desktop Linux, and it's what forms the Steam Deck's performance HUD too.

Here's all the improvements:

Changes

  • time now has a label (you can remove this label with no_time_label)
  • Wayland keybinds have been added

Fixes

  • frametime color wasn't being correctly inherited, the user was not able to change it's color
  • fixed a crash when pressing Shift_R + F9
  • config options now correctly override preset options
  • fixed RPM and % being incorrectly assigned for GPU fan speeds

Parameters

  • no_time_label removes the label before time
  • network shows the throughput in kb/s for all interfaces or a specified list of interfaces e.g network=eth0,wlo1

Since it's a pre-release, there's no pre-compiled packages so you'll need to build it from source or wait for the full release after it's had some testing time.

Hope they soon fix the issues with some metrics impairing with game performance. Some of the display options cause considerable regular frametime spikes, when enabled.

Which metrics are doing this? Maybe I will turn them off on my setup, if they aren’t already.
