I do love how indie developers come up with all these unique and quirky game ideas, and now Paper Sky is on the way from developer BRUTE FORCE who also made the dynamic physics platformer Crumble. Crumble was well made and a pretty clever game overall, so I'm keen to see more from this developer.

They've launched a Kickstarter with a goal of 35,000€ EUR, which they have until Fri, May 24 2024 to hit. For those of you who love more casual games, this might be for you. It's going to have Native Linux support, and full testing on Steam Deck. The developer even noted they're planning proper gyroscope integration too for controlling the plane by tilting.

Features the developer noted:

  • Fold your own Paper plane in the first game to ever let you do that.
  • Dynamic paper transformation, either glide with the paper plane or roll with the paper ball.
  • 10+ hours of relaxing yet challenging gameplay, experimenting with the world and fully exploring the wind flows.
  • Write your message, and help other players carry on theirs just like they helped yours.
  • 12 unique art styles.
  • Challenge mode, compete against others to see who can glide the farthest in an online Paper Plane competition using your own folded paper plane.
  • Customizable plane, beyond its flying capability you will be able to fly your colours.
  • Play at your own pace - No hard skill checks, no dark souls filtering bosses. If you can't use the skies, use the ground.

There's a demo on the Steam page but currently only for Windows, so you'll need Proton to test it for now. However, they said the Beta will be available on all platforms. The full release is planned for 2025.

You can wishlist / follow on Steam and fund it on the Kickstarter.

This reminds me of "Race The Sun", but looks like so much more fun!

Reminds me a lot of Exo One, actually. Particularly the bit of the trailer that seemed to be showcasing maintaining and increasing your speed by using the ball form and then switching to plane form when you launch off a ramp. Speaking of which, found out they're doing a sci-fi rally game, which is neat.
