I haven't played this for a while, but I remember it making my skin crawl. Damn bugs everywhere. Empires of the Undergrowth is a pretty great RTS that puts you in charge of an Ant colony. They've just announced the the big 1.0 release is finally coming as it's going to leave Early Access on June 7th.

Here you build intricate nests, develop pheromone-based tactics, and evolve the brood to combat escalating threats across multiple game modes.

The big 1.0 update will include a range of new features, including:

  • A new savannah environment with its own creatures and hazards.
  • New ant species you can play in the campaign or custom games.
  • The final arc of the single-player campaign, featuring three new documentary missions with full voice acting and new artwork, as well as a final climactic challenge.
  • New Game Plus mode so the campaign can be played again with further upgrades and increased difficulty.
  • And many more quality-of-life tweaks and improvements.

This one actually does have a Native Linux version, although the version on Steam hasn't been updated for a while, as the developer prefers people to use Proton as they previously said due to engine issues it worked a lot better in Proton. The Native Linux version is available on GOG and appears to be up to date.

You can buy it from:

Fanatical

GOG

Humble Store

Steam

The voice over voice could make money doing Gauntlet audio tracks: "Green elf needs food badly!!!"

AKA incompetent developers or they're too resource starved. Either way don't care, hard pass. No, I don't care if Proton is good enough. I've got a large enough game library to be extra picky on certain things.
