Since you all love reading about games industry consolidation, here's more for you! Atari have acquired a whole lot from Intellivision.

Atari have been making quite a few moves lately. They revived the Infogrames brand and acquired Totally Reliable Delivery Service, they also bought up Awesomenauts, Swords & Soldiers and Digital Eclipse, and even Nightdive Studios are now owned by Atari.

Clearly they're trying to make one heck of a comeback.

Now they also own the Intellivision brand, so Intellivision Entertainment LLC will now be rebranding to continue on with their AMICO console. The press release noted this deal includes giving Atari "the rights to more than 200 titles from the Intellivision portfolio and the Intellivision trademarks".

So now with that Atari plan to expand both digital and physical distribution of classic Intellivision games, and of course look to use their newly acquired IP for potential future games and licensing.

“This was a very rare opportunity to unite former competitors and bring together fans of Atari, Intellivision and the golden age of gaming,” said Wade Rosen, Chairman and CEO of Atari.

“Uniting Atari and Intellivision after 45 years ends the longest-running console war in history,” said Mike Mika, Studio Head at Digital Eclipse, an Atari-owned game studio.

When I was I kid I had a Atari 2600 but friends of ours had the Intellivision. We switched consoles for a while. I have fond memories of playing Auto Racing, Armor Battle and Astrosmash. The controllers were terrible though, I remember getting very sore thumbs.

IBM is doing very well. Where I work, we still have a couple AS/400 systems running critical programs. Legacy support probably generates more revenue monthly than Atari makes in a quarter.

Consumers have never been a priority of IBM, but that doesn't make them small.
Their last revenue report cited 62.07B.
Things that make them valuable:
They're one of the oldest trusted defense contractor of the USA military. This means in part that they can actually supply stuff for building military aircraft(Kind of old NAZI gold. Same conflict different side.)
They're the owners of SPSS(the go to statistics statistics program of many universities)
Lots of players in the financial industry are locked into their ecosystem, since 1970.
They own Red Hat.

Yeah, IBM doesn't give a crap about us lowly peasants when they can sell their POWER architecture at a premium, LPAR out their OS/400 stuff on said hardware, and are still used in financial institutions, since their stuff are amazing at crunching numbers.

They gave the bird to all the Enterprise Linux users when they bought Red Hat and called us all leeches...

I mean the Amico was very likely going to be made out of couple years old phone parts running off some special locked-down version of Android anyways.
While the Atari VCS 800 was delayed a year or so due to Covid hitting right as it was about to be made / shipped, at least it's a proper Linux install and not Android! It was a fully Linux OS on a game console before the Steam Deck, which I know was mostly due to them being cheap asses, but the new CEO has been getting some decent support out of it!

I assumed that the VCS was running Windows because I saw Fortnite screenshots in the promotional material. Guess I was wrong lol, though I guess you can install Windows on the thing.

Yeah, AtariOS itself is a Debian based system, https://www.apertis.org/

Sure you CAN put Windows on it... I have Debian set up on an internal drive I can dual boot too, or save AtariOS games to. They're DRM free, and you can just copy the directory over to a Linux desktop and play the game natively. I quite like the little thing.
