Finally some good news from an Electronic Arts published title, as developer Hazelight just upgraded It Takes Two to get it Steam Deck Verified.

Third-party additional launchers are a plague on Steam games, they get in the way and repeatedly break with Proton. So it's nice to see a developer be able to go back and sort it out. In the announcement on Steam they said "Today’s update for It Takes Two adds support for Steam Deck and game invites through the Steam friends list, and removes the need for the EA App launcher.".

Highlights:

  • It Takes Two is now Steam Deck Verified! so you can play it anywhere on the go!
  • The EA App launcher is no longer needed to play It Takes Two.
  • An EA account is still required to connect to EA servers for online play.
  • Sending game invites and joining your friends’ games is now supported directly through the Steam friends list.
  • Friend’s Pass users can install the new Steam version of the Friend’s Pass, or continue using the existing EA App Friend’s Pass.
  • Steam Family Sharing is now available for It Takes Two.

I have someone desperate to play it with me, and I kept on saying no for that reason. Now I guess I have no excuse heh.

I can not believe they'd remove their trash launcher, has this happened before to other of EA's games?

Oh wow...did hell freeze over?
Well, let's hope this is not just a one off and EA might actually become buyable again in a year or two!

It's honestly a pretty fun and well put together game. A mix of platforming and puzzles, with real asymmetric coop (as in you have to cooperate to progress and it's not just both pressing identical buttons on either side of a fence). The story isn't too bad either, albeit a bit cliché. Worth a play!

Now, if EA can continue to get rid of their crappy launcher in a bunch of their other games that use it, that would be great. Also, if can also get rid of their crappy anti-cheat and make their games playable again on Steam Deck/Linux, then they can take my money again.
Played on the Xbox Series X with a friend and it was great. Story is a bit cheezy and the sequence with the elephant toy is brutal on the emotions. However, gameplay is absolutely superb and the level design very creative.

So it CAN be done... go ahead and do this for the other games, EA.

Now, that's the game my semi-gamer wife who occasionally play casual games specifically asked about. It looks like we will be playing this coop in this summer.
