Manjaro 24.0, based on Arch Linux, has been released pulling in a whole lot of upgrades across every part of the system. Despite a good few screw-ups in the past, Manjaro is actually a pretty reasonable choice for those of you who want a very up to date system with an easy install. It's even the Linux distribution Valve picked in their Developing for Steam Deck without a Dev-Kit guide.

Manjaro 24.0 Wynsdey brings with it GNOME 46.1, KDE Plasma 6.0.4 (with KDE Gear 24.02.02), Linux kernel 6.9 for the latest hardware support and Xfce 4.18. You also get Mesa 24.06, NVIDIA 550.78 and numerous updates to other software.

See their release announcement, along with some changes on their forum. Download from the Manjaro website.

Going by Valve's own survey and ours, Manjaro remains one of the more popular Linux distributions on the desktop. Have you used it recently, or are you using it now? Let me know in the comments how you're getting on with it.

At some point this year we're also going to see the Manjaro Gaming Edition which will come pre-installed on the Orange Pi Neo Linux gaming handheld.

Spoiler, click me

That's exactly what I lived with Debian and Debian-like distributions, until I migrated to Arch/Manjaro.

Seriously, I did a lot of distro hopping (Arch, Debian and Fedora based) and never found a distro that didn't have some annoying issues. It's just a matter of what you are willing to cope with. This said, they are all less annoying than Windows, in my opinion.

Manjaro is the "lesser evil", atm, to me.

Satisfied user for years. But I'm a bit hesitant before this big upgrade...
Quoting: MohandevirJust got the upgrade, on my PC... After the update, I was left with an empty desktop. All the apps had been removed. I had to reinstall the desktop with "pacman -Qqn | pacman -S -" to get them back.

Hu... rray!

Just updated Manjaro Gnome and...everything work, no issue for the moment. A far better experience than upgrading Ubuntu to a new version...when you have to finish manually in command line with apt-get install -f and apt-get clean...

Love Gnome 46. I just hope the extensions I have been struggling to get working so far don't crash any longer.

After updating it, all the applications disappeared, I cursed as only we Sicilians know how to do, making all the existing saints fall from the sky... I counted to a thousand and solved it by restarting x11...

In fact, the first thing I did was restarting my computer... Still empty. KDE issue?

I have it now too :-) and mostly everything is just working.

The running Cat applet which shows how busy the CPU is is obviously inkompatible and just doesnt work - understandable.

And as it is an Update and not an new install it seems to have and use the old Setting of my "active Corner" which i used but there is no more Config Tab/i couldn't find it. So i even cant deactivat that now :D

But i will later look if i just havn't installed something that i need to shop that cinfigurations or if there is a Bug, if it is now unsupported.

Thats only minor things. I am pretty sure the Runnung cat will sometime get a update/new applet :D

it's a strange error, rebooting didn't fix the problem for me, but switching from x11 to Wayland and then back to x11 fixed the problem...
