Towards the end of April, NVIDIA released the 550.78 driver and if you use a notebook with a RTX 4xxx series GPU you may want to update for this one.
This is not the exciting release we're all waiting for that adds in Explicit Sync support, as last we heard that should be due around May 15th with the new 555 Beta series.
For this release the one-liner is:
- Fixed a regression that led to Xid errors when loading the NVIDIA driver on some notebook systems with RTX 4xxx series GPUs.
Do you have a notebook that had this issue on Linux? Did this driver fix it? Let me know in the comments.
There was also another earlier driver update I missed with version 550.76 from April 16th:
- Fixed a bug that could prevent the driver from initializing on some systems running RHEL 9.3.
Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:

I have an Asus ROG Flow X16 2023 (Nvidia 4070) and the 550.78 beta (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/nvidia-open-beta to be specific) fixed the problems (crashes on every suspend, random crashes during normal use). No more crashes and Hyprland is happy again!

A few more days to go to 555 nvidia driver. Finally explicit sync. I hope Fedora will be fast on that one - they already got the gnome version having the patches.

You can always download and install the driver manually without hassle. Much like I've been doing since Doom 3 released.

I could, but I'd need to manage and update that myself later... and that's what I really do not want to do. Just glad that will hopefully be gone in the next month.
