Steam Deck and desktop Linux fans have more testing to do, with Valve releasing a new Proton Experimental update today fixing games, launchers and more.

Firstly, Valve noted KinitoPET as now playable as of this release. Sounds weird: "A psychological horror experience that takes place through Kinito, an early 2000s virtual assistant.".

On top of that Valve added support for D3D12 in OpenXR. Which is great to see for VR, after bumping up OpenXR support to version 1.1.36 in a previous update.

The other fixes include:

  • Previously in Proton Hotfix: Fixed The Finals crashing on launch after a recent game update.
  • Fixed hosting multiplayer games in Foundry.
  • Fixed Ubisoft Launcher not starting games with a fresh Proton prefix.
  • Fixed outdated Nvidia driver warning in Ghost of Tsushima.
  • Fixed issue causing no audio being played while Microsoft Flight Simulator displays developers logos.

It's interesting to see more VR improvements like this. Not only are we seeing OpenXR get improved in Proton, but we've also seen multiple SteamVR fixes lately for Linux too. Hopefully this is the start of more VR work for Linux and dare I say it, the long-rumoured Deckard VR kit from Valve eventually? One can dream.

This one's in a bundle with some other well-received horror-games right now. Shame it's Steam Deck Unsupported, though.

Early 2000s virtual assistant? So I guess it's a take on the psychological horror of dealing with Clippy.

Sounds like it - great concept!

Proton Experimental bleeding-edge is my hero. I can finally play Titanfall 2 and not have the cancerous EA Launcher crash on me or lock me out of even starting the game.
