Valve released an update to Proton Experimental for Linux and Steam Deck today which continues to expand the controller support available for various games launchers, amongst a bunch of other improvements.

Continuing to make use of the open source tool Xalia, the controller support was expanded to include launchers for Tomb Raider: Legend, Tomb Raider: Anniversary, Fallout 4, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition, and partial support of Fallout 3 (standard and GOTY edition).

Interesting to see Fallout 4 in that list, which had the launcher hidden in the next gen update recently on Steam Deck. Although you can get it back with a simple Steam launch option of: SteamDeck=0 %command%

Other improvements include:

  • Fixed Apex Legends not starting after a recent game update (previously in Proton Hotfix).
  • Fix The Finals wrongly detecting button mashing (previously in Proton Hotfix).
  • Added raw HID support for VKB Gunfighter SCG.
  • Improved font rendering in Alien Swarm: Reactive Drop.
  • Fixed video playback in Twisted Sails.
  • Made Xalia hidden when no controller is plugged in.
  • Improved controller input support for Tower Princess.

Valve also marked Alpha League as now playable as of this update. See all in the changelog.

Gotta love a hidden launcher in an update. Bethesda really is a crap company.
