Soulstone Survivors, easily one of the best action roguelite horde-survival bullet heaven games (hi Vampire Survivors), has a new major update out with a suspiciously Deep Rock Galactic looking Dwarf in it.

In the Master of Machines update they've added the Engineer, and they look…yeah. Rock and Stone!

"The master of machines seeks Soulstones to power his latest creations! Use powerful turrets and mechanical allies to decimate the corrupt creatures of the Void! Supply yourself and your allies with endless ammunition and even launch portable nukes for ultimate destruction!"

Not only that the update added in a new upgrade mechanic. When you've unlock all weapons for a character, you can now upgrade them to make them much more powerful. Check out the update trailer:

Soulstone Survivors has Native Linux support and is rated Steam Deck Playable, not Verified due to some smaller text which hopefully the developer will solve eventually. The game is still in Early Access so it's not quite done yet.

Available to buy on Steam. It's 30% off until May 20th.

I love this horde-survival game. I think it's probably in the top-three for me, along with Death Must Die and the daddy, Vampire Survivors.

When I first saw this update I thought for sure there would be a bundle with DRG Survivor. I wonder if negotiations fell flat here and they released this update anyways.

Haven't unlocked this character yet, but the game is pretty good. It has some weird aspects to it though. You can level until complete utter chaos fills the entire screen because you can just hop into the endless portal and continue. You will eventually die though because the enemies seem to go up quicker and you'll fall victim to AOE attacks that you can't see coming in the chaos.

If you manage to get a good amount of defence going you might actually cheat death. In one run I became nearly impervious due to an interesting combination of effects that negated almost all damage. In that case, you'll run into the exponential boss health problem. By the time bosses get to 50-60 billion health, it would take about 10 minutes to trickle them down. Did one run like that, but now I take the exit before I get there since there really is no benefit in going through that.

A DRG engineer with minigun, walking bomb turrets and mech suit... we're doomed.
