Valve have revealed the most played Steam Deck games for April 2024, and to no surprise you've all be playing a whole lot of Fallout haven't you? Yes you have. Don't forget to pick up all those cups and everything else to sell to someone. Or is that just me? I end up being a hoarder in Fallout.

ha! every single modern fallout game is on there. Impressive. Really shows what a good show tie-in will do for you. New Vegas is by far the best of the bunch IMO. Fallout 4 is WAY too much janky base building. Fallout 3 is just simply too old at this point. New Vegas with some mods is the best way you can go these days.

It's too bad that they (reportedly) broke so many mods with the latest update to Fallout 4. I was thinking about revisiting it with some mods that toned down the base-management parts of the game. I stopped in the middle of my original play-through after I was told "Another settlement needs your help" one too many times.

I'll probably not be playing much on the Deck for the next little while. I replaced my broken GPU on the desktop, so I'm going back for another go of Death Stranding there. I did play a bunch of that some time ago, but towards the end the game removes all the fun & I stopped; I'm starting again from the beginning. What I'd like to do is stream the game from the desktop to the Deck, but Remote Play has gone janky again.
I did complete Full Void on the Deck, though. I also had another try of Invisible, Inc there; that one would be hugely improved on the Deck if they'd backported the controller work that they did for the console release.

Given the game's impending doom, I finally bit the bullet and bought Samurai Jack - Battle Through Time and, as a fan of the series, I'm loving it!
$40 bucks is worth it to
erm, I mean, to play a faithful continuation/interquel!

Oops. Sounds like the reason I gave up on Mad Max. Is there really a Fallout with busywork?

Following the Fallout trend I decided to give a chance to 76 and I'm glad I did. In some ways is better than vanilla FO4, more enemies, more weapons, better base building and you don't have to worry about your camp being attacked, some patrols will spawn from time to time but only if you are at your camp, a couple of well placed turrets once you learn where the spawn point is and forget about it.
A lot of camp stuff is locked behind a paywall but daily, weekly and character challenges give you premium currency, I've already bought some neat stuff with those. What annoys me is the stash limit.
One of the things I like the most is the community, I've met a lot of friendly people. Each server capacity is 24 players, but is a big map so most of the time you have the classic lonely experience I love from these games, but from time to time you stumble upon another vault dwellers with their wave emote ready to go, they even leave their camp collectors unlocked so you can go and take some water/food if you need it. And vets don't have any problem to assist you if you ask for help, they even invite you to a team if you show up to a high level world event (which I recommend, easy exp, just tap every enemy once even if you do 0 damage, you'll get the exp when they die).
The perk and special system is adapted to the online formula but is very flexible, don't think too hard about your build at the beginning, focus on a type of weapon and pick your perks around it. Besides that, choose the perks you like, you can always swap them if you change your mind, even redistribute your special points once you reach level 50.
The cherry on top is the absence of anti cheat and absolutely 0 problems with Steam Deck.
TL;DR: Fallout 76 deserves a second chance if you like the franchise, a very different game for what a I remember from the 2018 reviews.
