Valve has now published the Steam Hardware & Software Survey: April 2024, and overall the movements are pretty small but there is a small dip for Steam Deck.
For the operating system numbers April 2024 shows:
- Windows 96.76% +0.09%
- Linux 1.90% -0.04%
- macOS 1.35% -0.03%

When you filter over to the Linux details, we can see the small dip for Steam Deck this month:
- SteamOS Holo 64 bit (Steam Deck) 42.33% -1.89%
- Arch Linux 64 bit 8.24% +0.58%
- Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS 64 bit 6.13% +0.59%
- Freedesktop SDK 23.08 (Flatpak runtime) 64 bit 6.01% +0.04%
- Linux Mint 21.3 64 bit 4.39% +0.62%
- Manjaro Linux 64 bit 3.37% -0.05%
- Other 29.53% +0.12%
This also shows on the GPU details with the AMD AMD Custom GPU 0405 (Steam Deck) seeing -2.77%. Overall though, the Steam Deck with SteamOS is still the most used system in for Linux gaming on Steam.

I think statistics shown Linux gain new users. Why? There is small amount of drop in Steam Deck usage. Current Linux players do not be calculated twice. Many do not change distro and if somebody bought Steam Deck, it would not be calculated as user, who stop using it. So current Linux users could bought Steam Deck and be calculated as Steam Deck users. What we have is decrease of Steam Deck users and increase of other distro usage, so: We have had new Linux users. But, why Linux marketshare drops? I think the reason are Chinese users.

Steam Deck went down. I guess they sold negative units last month.
