I'm apparently a total and complete sucker for anything that allows for short rounds of gameplay, that mixes in elements of Brotato and Vampire Survivors to let me customize my run and Towerful Defense: Prologue has plenty of that.

Available free on Steam ahead of the full game releasing at some point later this year, it's definitely giving me that feeling of needing just one more run. It's really nothing to look at, with the most basic graphics possible but the key is in the gameplay here.

It's a tower defense action roguelike where you control a single tower to fight against hordes of aliens coming from all directions. Pick your tower, equip up to 4 skills, and choose from a variety of traits and items to craft powerful builds that lead you to victory. So, it's a bit like the rather fun Heretic's Fork but without the deck-building. Instead here you get the shop system after waves like you do in Brotato to build up your tower.

The Prologue (a glorified demo) gives you:

  • Fast run roguelike tower defense (about 30 minutes for a run) with 19 normal waves and a partial boss wave.
  • 3 Towers with different buffs, and play-style-changing effects.
  • 3 Skills with upgrades, enhancements, and unique traits.
  • 100+ artifacts and support units to help you craft unique powerful builds.
  • Auto Skill with customizable targeting behaviors.

It has Native Linux support and is good fun to try out different combinations.

Hell yeah, this'll be insta-buy when it lands and I'm gonna play the prologue into the ground until then. Loved Heretic's Fork. Loved Brotato. What could be better?
