I know this will excite many of you. DOOM: The Dark Ages has been announced today and it will arrive on Steam in 2025. Get ready for more ripping and tearing.

Vile forces push a kingdom to the brink. Fangs gnashing, their fury is emboldened by the flames of Hell’s own malevolence. No mortal blade cuts their masses down. No bulwark stays their advance. No army dares match them in the battlefield.

But you will. You are the super weapon primed to destroy evil.

For when Hell is at the gates, the DOOM Slayer answers.

Seems like I really need to go and play through DOOM Eternal to the finish now. I know, I'm a bit of a late bloomer on the recent DOOM games after only finishing DOOM in the last year. Although, you don't actually have to play the others, since DOOM: The Dark Ages shows off the Slayer's origin and is actually a prequel to the other two modern DOOM games. Oh, and this time you've got some fun toys to play with like the Atlan, a "daunting skyscraper-sized mech capable of toppling Hell’s behemoths with titanic metal fists" and a Mecha Dragon to fly around on too.

Since it will be on Steam, thanks to Proton we shouldn't have much trouble playing it, and we know id Software use Vulkan so it's likely it will run really well.

Hell yeah, this looks awesome!

Read more in the full announcement. The Steam page isn't up yet but should be soon (update: Steam page is live).

Still have to finish the original doom...

Funny coincidence, considering I just recently have been giving the original DOOM and DOOM 3 a try.
Another exciting game from Microsoft!

It seems like the new game is partially inspired by the original Quake concept where "The protagonist would become a Thor-like being wielding a giant Hammer."

Now I feel like watching that Ahoy retrospective again.

I've still to finish Doom (2016) - never mind Doom Eternal...

Spent much more time recently playing GZdoom...

I still miss Doom "I" deathmatch - where I worked : we had an IPX (Novell) network - we'd deathmatch in the IT training room and kill the WHOLE LAN with IPX broadcasts!

I just loved that whole trailer!

Wish they would move on - and not to Quake - instead of relying on IPs established by the OGs. Current id is still one of the most competent developers out there. I would love to see what they can come up with on their own.

Hopefully thisone doesn't have the stupid platforming sections Eternal had.

echoing what others have said here: As long as it's more like the 2016 game and not Eternal: bring it on! Eternal was not a Doom game, it was a silly platforming weapon management sim. The devs completely forgot what was fun about Doom when they made that game.

Just keep it simple! This is Doom we're talking about. Does it really need building size mechs? I'm not sure. I'll wait for some more previews to see if this is even interesting to me at all. Time will tell.

Doesn't everything need building size mechs?

I enjoyed both but prefer eternal over 2016 myself

I find it too easy to cheese in 2016, I'd just spam RL and SSG and win without really putting any thought

The gunplay didn't have the same "oompf" factor either, enemies chunks coming off as you shoot them made a BIG difference in eternal

The trailer for dark ages seems like there's no hook for the ssg, and looked more grounded so maybe it won't be like eternal were you're basically flying around like superman lol
