Well, that's certainly one way to pull in some eyes isn't it? Fight the developers, get it open source or Fishards will be gone from Steam.
More about it: Combine the intense, skill-shot PVP of Magicka or Battlerite with some wacky 2-legged-fish and you've got yourself Fishards! The unique spell combining mechanic creates a brand new type of PvP arena experience that you have to try with friends!
Posted on the Godot Engine Reddit, the developers announced a tournament with a twist:
We released Fishards a few years ago and sadly it wasn't able to support us developers financially, so we stopped development.
However, instead of letting the game fade into obscurity we have now decided to make the game open source...
IF!
...the Fishards community can beat us in a tournament taking place in a few weeks! (June 29 19:00 CET*)
If we developers win however... We are deleting Fishards from Steam!! >:)
* That's 5PM UTC on June 29th.

Will you be taking part? Sounds like a fun little marketing stunt.

QuoteWill you be taking part? Sounds like a fun little marketing stunt.Nuh-uh. I've done my time in competitive and I'm never going back, not no way, not no how, not for any game.
Also, even if I wanted to...
QuoteJoin their Discord to sign up.... this right here is a complete dealbreaker. I don't touch social-media with a ten-foot pole.

I tried taking a quick look for more information about who won (without joining their Discord server), but I couldn't find anything. No forum post announcing the tournament, no link to a source code repo, nothing...
